The Mud Hens scratched out a run in the bottom of the 10th to take the game 2-1 and the series 3-1 from the Chiefs. Paolo Espino did his part as a starter, tossing seven innings of one-run ball with one walk and five hits allowed and six strikeouts. The loss went to Erik Davis on a pair of singles sandwiched between a groundout. Jason Martinson and Caleb Ramsey both went 2-for-4, with Martinson scoring the lone Syracuse run.
Roster moves: OF Matt den Dekker recalled to Washington; UT Jose Lozada activated from 7-Day DL.

Turnabout is fair play as the Senators drilled the Rock Cats bullpen for four runs in the 8th to take the series finale, 6-2. Matt Spann started and pitched into the 6th, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and five walks (one intentional) while striking out four over five and 2/3rds. James Simmons followed him, stranding three in the 6th and blanking New Britain for two innings to earn the win, his third. Matt Skole and Brian Goodwin both went 2-for-4, while Drew Vettleson’s Earl Weaver special (a three-run HR) highlighted Harrisburg’s rally in the 8th.

Four-run rallies were de rigeur on Thursday with Potomac’s coming in the 6th at Five-County Stadium en route to a 6-3 win in the series finale vs. Carolina. Nick Pivetta, who was named to the Carolina League All-Star team yesterday along with Spencer Kieboom, tied for the team lead in wins with his 5th as he let in all three Mudcat runs over six innings on seven hits and five walks. Wander Suero, who also has five wins, notched his second save with three scoreless innings of relief. Christopher Bostick and John Wooten both homered as the P-Nats racked up a baker’s dozen of hits.
Roster move: RHP Kevin Perez transferred to Auburn; RHP Jake Johansen activated from 7-Day DL.

The Suns rallied for four in the 10th to snap a 3-3 tie and prevent a three-game sweep. All-Star Austen Williams started and allowed all three Shorebird runs on five hits and a walk while fanning five over six innings. All-Star Drew Van Orden finished the game with four scoreless innings of relief to get the win, No. 3 on the season. Alec Keller scored three times while going 2-for-4 while “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz drove in three while going 2-for-5 as Hagerstown scored seven times on just six hits, “thanks” to four Delmarva errors.
Roster moves: RHP Luis Reyes transferred to Auburn roster; C Raudy Read activated from 7-Day DL.

Trea Turner Update
Turner was 1-for-5 in the Missions’ 8-4 loss on Thursday.

  1. Three wins on the same day – hooray! Bostick seems to be on a hot streak, perhaps contributing to Renda’s availability.

    Is there any news on Difo’s early departure from the game yesterday? Mick didn’t have anything about it in his game story. I think we all had sudden trade thoughts, particularly on the heels of the Renda trade.

I would have to think that Difo is close to untouchable, because of the Desmond situation, Difo’s skill set and upward trajectory, Taylor’s unresolved ceiling (Turner to CF?) , and because psychologically Difo is more than a player – but a symbol to the entire Dominican program and Latin recruitment. Difo is not the Nats top prospect but he is one of the most important players in the organization right now. Perhaps that has something to do with why he was promoted for ML exposure, with July 2 looming. They certainly did not showcase him!

    Of course, the Nats have a proven track record of trading their MLPOY — if he has not yet graduated to the majors. The strategy seems to be smart, when you look at the tale of four careers — Steven Souza, Billy Burns, Tyler Moore and Matt Skole.

    1. I don’t know whether Difo is “untouchable,” but I do like him a lot. Some draftniks may jump on me for saying this, but I think he profiles similarly to Alex Bregman, the #2 overall pick. I know that Difo is two years older, but if Bregman replicates Difo’s 2014 season next year at the same age when he is in A-ball, he’ll shoot to the top 10 of a lot of prospect lists.

    Example of getting into MLB draft eligible . Native
    Puerto Rican who attended Jackson State.
    Looking forward to him and Ian Sagdal perform in
    Farm.
    Plus the two lefty swinging corner OFs

    The big club should enjoy milwaukee. Have
