How long until “Pedro” Lopez gets pushed to Harrisburg? The Carolina League is obviously no challenge for him! Wow. He certainly seems to be living up to advanced billing. Perhaps Ross can be bumped up to Syracuse to make room for him. I would be interested in hearing from our Harrisburg compadres whether Ross is looking as good in person as he is on the stat sheet. As much as we liked Souza, there seems to be much to like in return in Ross and He Who Shall Be Named Later, both of whom could end the season in AAA.
What to do with Lopez is a quandary.
You don’t want to rush him (the Nats sent him to Summer Class Auburn less than a year ago; the Nats have already moved him two levels since then), but when a pitcher continues to post ridiculous numbers (two earned runs in his last 70+ innings), the temptation is to promote him fast, as pitchers, like running backs in football, have a limited shelf life. Lopez’ stuff is electric right now; it may not be in 3 years; it may not be next year. Why not take advantage of it now?
Would guess that he will make the jump to AA within the next month, with the possibility that he Nats bring him to the bigs before year-end if he continues to so thoroughly dominate.
Looks like the Baseball Prispectus guy was there last night. Expect another scouting report in the next few days.
Take it with a grain of salt – Wilmington is the worst team offensively in the league.
So Difo’s prolonged absence surely means he’s dealing with an injury, right? Any Harrisburgers with an insight?
Back in the lineup today. 0-4.
