After blowing a 3-1 lead and trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th, the Chiefs rallied for two to walk off with a 7-6 win. Tony Gwynn Jr. drove three of the final four Syracuse runs with a two-run HR in the 7th and the walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the 9th. That made a winner out of Rafael Martin, who was in line for the loss after coughing up longball to rehabbing Nick Swisher in the top of the 9th. Taylor Jordan got the start — his first on less than a week’s rest — and let in a run on three hits and three walks while striking out four and hitting a batter.

After getting hammered like a Kennedy at open bar in his first AA start, Brian Rauh rebounbded in his second start to turn in seven innings of two-run ball, scattering nine hits, walking one, and striking out three. Unfortunately, his counterpart for Bowie was one run better as the BaySox edged the Senators, 2-1. Elih Villanueva and Mychal Givens held Harrisburg to just six hits, with leadoff man Caleb Ramsey and No. 9 man Shawn Pleffner each collecting two. Tony Renda drove in the lone run on a fielder’s choice in the 3rd but was caught stealing to end the rally. Something is afoot as both Paolo Espino and Tim Alderson have been skipped in this turn of the rotation as well as no official probable listed for Tuesday.

Potomac’s offensive struggles returned in a 4-2 loss to Salem. Drew Ward’s two-run HR in the 7th took starter Nick Pivetta off the hook for the wrong side of 2-0 tally, but it was just one of only five hits on the night for the P-Nats and the 14th time in 23 games they failed to score four or more runs. Pivetta gave up nine hits, a walk, hit a batter, and set down six on strikes over six innings. The loss went to Justin Thomas, who gave up the go-ahead and insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th. Christopher Bostick, Khayyan Norfork, and Spencer Kieboom each doubled with the bases empty, with Norfork scoring on Ward’s big fly, his first of 2015.

The Drive ran over Jefry Rodriguez for four runs in the 1st and, um, cruised to a 5-3 win over the Suns. Rodriguez settled down to turn in two scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but gave up six hits and three walks while striking out three to take the loss. Brett Mooneyham held Greenville to one run over four innings, but the offense couldn’t catch up. Raudy Read singled twice, drove in one, and stole a base while D.K. Carey walked, doubled, and scored twice as the Hagerstown lineup was held to just six hits total.

Turner homered for the first time in 2015 and was 1-for-3 with two RBI overall in a 3-0 San Antonio win.
