After blowing a 4-0 lead, the Chiefs tied it at 5-5 in the 7th with a Mark Minicozzi single after an Emmanuel Burriss triple. In the 8th, a hit batsman, sacrifice, a steal of 3B, and a throwing error plated the gamewinner for the IronPigs in a 6-5 win. A.J. Cole started but was roughed up for three runs on five hits over four innings and left after throwing 80 pitches. Burris also doubled and came around to scored on a Minicozzi groundout as both veterans finished at 2-for-5 to pace the nine-hit attack. Roster moves: RHP Rafael Martin recalled to Washington; RHP Sam Runion reassigned from Harrisburg

Skole finished with five RBI total while going 2-for-5. Kevin Keyes also notched multiple hits with a pair of singles and an RBI while Tony Renda doubled and walked improve his OBP to .462 after six games. Roster moves: OF Caleb Ramsey reassigned from Syracuse; OF Drew Vettleson placed on the 7-Day DL; OF Denard Span assigned from Washington for MLB rehab; RHP Colin Bates assigned from XST
Winston-Salem vs. Potomac — PPD
Rain throughout the day yesterday forced a postponement of last night’s game to a pair of games this morning.
West Virginia vs. Hagerstown — PPD
Likewise in Charleston, the rain washed away Game Two of the Suns-Power to create a mid-morning doubleheader.
Trea Turner Update
Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in a 3-0 Missions win. He was caught stealing for the first time in three attempts.
‘Beer League’ Martin was fabulous today. 2 IP 1Hit, 0BB, 5K’s(!!)
We had a request yesterday for Martin’s nickname. Most of us know it, but for those who don’t………..
Rafael pitched in High School but was never drafted or recruited by any college. He was pitching in a Beer League in California when he caught the eye of a Mexican Team and signed with them at the age of 22.
He pitched there for 3 years before somebody from the Nats found him and he was signed by them in 2010. It’s been a slow to very slow climb up the system until las years where he virtually unhittable and he forced the issue this year.
The story where dreams are made of.
