TBD and Bach (0-0, 4.50) vs. TBD and McRae (1-1, 4.15) |
Pawtucket 3 Syracuse 2
• T. Hill (L, 1-1) 5⅔ IP, 8H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 4K
• R. Hill 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K, 2-0 IR-S
• Taylor 2-4, 2B, BB
• Dykstra 2-4
Taylor Hill was moved up a night, came up one out short of a quality start, and was outdueled by Brian Johnson in a 3-2 Pawtucket win over Syracuse. The 26-y.o. Tennessean gave up two runs on eight hits and two walks over five and 2/3rds and fanned four in his first loss of 2015. Lineup bookends Michael Taylor and Cutter Dykstra were 2-for-4 each, but the guys in the seven spots in between were 1-for-23 in the Chiefs’ third straight defeat.
New Britain 13 Harrisburg 6
• Rauh (L, 0-1) 3⅓ IP, 10H, 8R, 8ER, 0BB, 2K, 4HR
• Simmons 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Severino 3-4, 3R, 2HR, 3RBI
• D. Robinson 2-3, 2BB, CS
• Goodwin 2-5, R
The Rock Cats pounded Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Brian Rauh for 10 hits, four HR, and eight runs in a 13-6 smackdown of the Senators. Rauh walked none and struck out two over three and a 1/3rd innings while losing his first AA start. Pedro Severino homered twice and singled once to drive in three and lead the Harrisburg offense, which collected 10 hits and four walks total.
Lynchburg 4 Potomac 3
• Pivetta (L, 1-2) 3IP, 1H, 3R, 2ER, 6BB, 3K
• K. Perez 4IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 5K
• Ballou 3-4, 2R, 2B, 3RBI
• Norfork 2-4
It’s hard to win when you give the opponent six free passes, as Nick Pivetta did in a 4-3 Potomac loss to Lynchburg to drop the series, 3-1. All three runs charged to the 22-y.o. Canadian got on via the walk in his three innings of work, as he gave up just one hit and struck out three in the loss. Isaac Ballou (3-for-4) and Khayyan Norfork (2-for-4) paced the P-Nats counterattack, which pulled within one with a run in the 4th and two in the 6th but was stifled over the final three innings.
Hagerstown — OFF DAY
The Suns and Power will pick up where they left off on the 15th and play to a seven-inning completion, then play another seven-inning game to kick off a seven-day homestand.
Trea Turner Update
Turner did not play in San Antonio’s game on Monday.
Welcome to AA, Mr. Rauh.
So much for that slow start for Severino. After a 0 for 22 to start, his OPS is already up to .801. Combined with world class defense, we have a hot, hot prospect here.
Good thing too, since Ramos is having another underwhelming year and Lobaton has so far completely cratered offensively. If Severino continues to develop on schedule, I would expect to see him to make his MLB debut sometime next year and then be groomed to take over for Ramos permanently in 2017.
The Syracuse hurler tonight is TBD as well. Cole gets his MLB debut!
I wish Cole luck–subbing for Scherzer in the middle of a long losing streak is a rough spot to make his debut.
I wonder if they’ll use Swynenberg to cover Cole’s start instead of a call-up.
Severino spent the first half of last season offensively inept. An he was excellent the second half. It’s hard to get a read on how good he is with such disparate stats. But I have a good feeling about him. No matter how poorly things are going offensively, it doesn’t appear to get him down. He just hangs in there and turns it around.
Been wondering about Turner. He was doing so well, went one game without a hit, and suddenly he hasn’t been starting for two games in a row. Hope he’s not injured.
A friend reminded me that Rauh was pitching
in a weak hitters league but the moved to mashing
