Syracuse 5 Rochester 4 — GAME ONE
• McGregor (W, 1-1) 5IP, 9H, 4R, 4ER, BB, 7K, HR
• Meek (SV, 2) 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 0K, 2-0 IR-S
• Ka‘aihue 2-3, R, BB
• Taylor 2-4, 2R, 2RBI
• den Dekker 2-4, R
The Chiefs scored four times with two out in the 6th to turn a 4-1 deficit into 5-4 win to stop a two-game slide and take the opener. Scott McGregor got the win despite allowing all four Redwings runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings, though he did strike out seven. Even Meek did not inherit the earth, nor did he allow the tying or go-ahead runs to score in the 6th as he got the last four outs for his second save. Kila Ka‘aihue reached base three times to lead the Syracuse attack.
Rochester 5 Syracuse — GAME TWO
• Billings (L, 0-2) 3IP, 6H, 5R, 4ER, BB, 0K, 2HBP
• Lively 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, K
• den Dekker 1-3, R
• Butler 1-1, BB, SF, RBI
Rochester scored in three of the first four innings and held off a late Syracuse charge to earn the doubleheader split with a 5-2 win. Bruce Billings let in all five runs on six hits and a walk while also hitting two batters to lose for the second time this season. Back-to-back walks to lead off the 7th led to both Chiefs runs, as Dan Butler connected on a sac fly and Jose Lozada stroked an RBI single to make the game look closer than it really was.
Reading 7 Harrisburg 4
• Ross 7IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 8K
• De Los Santos (BS, 1; W, 1-1) 1IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, K
• Goodwin 2-3, 3R, 2B, BB, E(2)
• Severino 1-2, R, 2BB, 2RBI
• Lisson 1-1, 2RBI
Harrisburg blew a 3-0 lead in the top of the 8th but got it back with a four-run response in the bottom of the 8th for a 7-4 win over Reading. Abel De Los Santos got the blown-save-win, spoiling seven innings of two-hit shutout ball spun by Joe Ross, who walked two an struck out eight. Pedro Severino (1-for-2) and Mario Lisson (1-for-1, PH) both connected for two-run singles while Brian Goodwin singled, doubled, and walked while scoring three runs to pace the Senators offense.
Roster moves: C Cole Leonida placed on restricted list; C Brian Jeroloman activated from XST.
Potomac vs. Lynchburg — PPD
The Hillcats and P-Nats were rained out on Saturday. They’ll make it up with a doubleheader this afternoon.
Hagerstown 6 Lakewood 5
• J. Rodriguez 4IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 4K
• Orlan (W, 1-0) 3+ IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 5K
• Abreu 2-3, R, BB
• DeBruin 3-4, BB, RBI
• Keller 3-5, 2R, 2B, SB
The Suns put up three in the 1st, one in the 3rd and two in the 6th but barely held on for 6-5 win, snapping a four-game losing streak. Jefry Rodriguez made his first start in nearly 11 months, tossing four shutout innings with one hit and two walks allowed while setting down four on strikes. Three relievers combined to give up five runs over five innings, with the win going to R.C. Orlan and the save going to Sam Johns. Alec Keller and Gavin DeBruin both notched three hits as the Hagerstown batters racked up 12 hits and drew four walks total.
Roster moves: RHP Jefry Rodriguez activated from XST; RHP Drew Van Orden reassigned to Auburn.
Trea Turner Update
Turner collected his 5th double while going 1-for-6 in an 8-7 Missions win.
Michael Taylor’s doing just what they want; getting his reps in staying sharp. His OPS is 1.086.
Goodwin looks ready for AAA.
After going 0 for his first 22 AB’s, Pedro Severino in his last 28 AB’s has 11 hits and 5 walks. That’s about a .600 OBP! Can you say trending upwards quickly?
The OPS is nice from Taylor, but he’s whiffed an astonishing 20 times in 51 at bats in AAA.
What’s up with Cole Leonida, the Senators’ catcher? I know he hasn’t played much at all this season. Will the team release him or what? If they’re not going to play him, they may as well release him.
Jonas K
I haven’t been able to find out anything more as to why he was placed on the restricted list, but it’s usually a procedural move done to put a hold on a player that the organization, in theory, would take back if/when he’s able/willing to play again. Will Piwnica-Worms, for example, hung ’em up to go back to medical school last summer but is on Potomac’s restricted list this year.
