The Chiefs never led in this one and only a Caleb Ramsey solo shot in the 9th prevented a shutout as the RailRiders chugged to a 3-1 win to split the four-game series. Scott McGregor took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over four and 2/3rds while striking out four. Relievers Mitch Lively and Eric Fornataro both stranded a pair of runners to keep the game close. Ramsey also singled as did Marc Minicozzi twice as the two combined for four of the six Syracuse hits.

Altoona made the most of its limited chances for 2-1 win over Harrisburg, earning a 2-2 series split. Starter Tim Alderson gave up one run on four hits and two walks over five innings, but left with the game tied 1-1. Bryan Harper struck out the first batter in the 6th but then gave up a triple and a double to suffer the loss. Ricky Hague threw out a runner at the plate on a two-out single to keep the game close and close out the 6th. The Sens got runners into scoring position in the 8th and 9th innings but couldn’t push across the equalizer, leaving a total of 11 men on base. Tony Renda connected for multiple hits for the third straight game, going 2-for-5 to raise his BA to .471 and scored the lone run on a Kevin Keyes RBI double in the 5th.

A two-run homer in the bottom of the 8th snapped a 4-4 tie as Hickory took the finale, 6-4, and the series, 3-1. Drew Van Orden issued three walks on the night but all of them came in the 2nd inning, allowing the Crawdads to tie the game at 3-3 with just one hit. A hit batsman, sacrifice, and a passed ball gave Hickory a 4-3 lead in Van Orden’s 5th and final inning. The Suns got a gift in the 8th with an error on a bunt single to set up Brennan Middleton’s RBI single to tie the game at 4-4. Andrew Cooper, who had shut down Hickory in the 6th and 7th innings, suffered the loss when he allowed the game-winning HR with one out in the 8th. Osvaldo Abreu paced the Suns offense with a single, double, a run scored, and a stolen base.
According to the Hickory Record, “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz was removed after a pickoff throw struck him in the eye.

Trea Turner Update
Trea Turner broke up his season-starting oh-fer with an RBI double in the 2nd inning of a 4-2 San Antonio loss. He was 1-for-4 overall.
