DSL Bats

Since this has appeared two years in a row, it makes sense to review how the 2014 guys did before we identify the next set.

Aldrem Corredor
2013 265 BA/.352 OBP/.337 SLG, .950 FA (in LF), +.015 GPA vs. Lg. Avg in the DSL
2014 .235/.411/.271, 1.000 FA, .+.021 GPA in the GCL → Made the 2015 watchlist as an OF

Kelvin Gutierrez
2013 .255/.333/.337, .921 FA, +.006 GPA
2014 .286/.362 /.349, .924 FA, +.015 GPA in the GCL → Made the 2015 watchlist as a 3B

Oliver Ortiz
2013 .307/.402/.386, .985 FA, +.049 GPA
2014 .219/.305/.349, 1.000 FA, -.010 GPA in the GCL

Israel Mota
2013 .215/.356/.313, .945 FA, +.010 GPA
2014 .310/.355/.485, .939 FA, +.046 GPA in the DSL → See below

Darryl Florentino
2013 .226/.327/.316, .966 FA, -.002 GPA
2014 .195/.222/.273, .986 FA, -.068 GPA in the GCL

So, three of the five have “progressed,” with two moving into a positional category and a third repeating as a DSL guy. Quotes because a selection bias is possible, not to mention the conventional wisdom that short seasons = small sample size.

Now, on to the 2014 DSL Guys…

Davinson Pimentel
POS: C/1B
JULY 1, 2015 AGE: 18
STATS: .350/.443/.550, .983 FA at 1B, .337 GPA (+.102 vs. Lg. Avg. of .235)
More than likely he’s still growing into his adult-sized body (listed at 5’9″ & 170), but he can certainly hit, showing an unusual amount of power (6HR) for a 17-y.o.

Telmito Agustin
POS: LF/CF
JULY 1, 2015 AGE: 18
STATS: .300/.413/.495, .966 (LF), .310 (+.075)
Forty walks and 25 steals is good over 120 games in full-season ball. In 60 games of short-season, it’s outstanding.

Victor Robles
POS: CF
JULY 1, 2015 AGE: 18
STATS: .313/.408/.484, .948 (CF), .305 (+.070)
All but two of his 45 games were in CF, which is generally a good indicator that there’s not much doubt about his defensive destination.

Israel Mota
POS: RF
JULY 1, 2015 AGE: 19
STATS: .310/.355/.485, .934 (RF), .281 (+.046)
It’s not worth speculating why the Nats chose to have Mota repeat the DSL, but it is worth wondering whether he’ll make his way higher than the GCL by the end of 2015.

Andres Martinez
POS: SS/3B
JULY 1, 2015 AGE: 19 (turns 20 July 7)
STATS: .302/.413/.376, .908 (SS), .280 (+.045)
Martinez presumably missed 2013 with injury but rebounded with a strong season, improving on offense but taking a step back on defense.
