Syracuse improved to 2-0 on the Michael Taylor era with a 4-1 win over Scranton Wilkes-Barre. The Chiefs gained a run on doubles by Emmanuel Burris and Brandon Laird in the bottom of the 1st, but lost Manager Billy Gardner for what appeared to be arguing against an out call at first base on a Tyler “Quite Contrary” Moore groundout. Starter and winner Taylor Hill pounded the zone with 54 strikes on 88 pitches en route to his tenth win. His lone mistake was an RBI double in the second. A Jeff Kobernus double and a Josh Johnson single gave Syracuse a 2-1 lead in the 3rd. A Brandon Laird two-run homer in the 4th concluded the offense for the night and scored Emmanuel Burriss. Xavier Cedeno recorded his fourth save with a scoreless 9th after a dreaded leadoff walk.
Roster move: C Sandy Leon recalled to Washington.

The Harrisburg Senators moved one day closer to fall recess with a 3-2 loss to the Reading Fightin’ Phils. Things started great for Harrisburg with a Cutter Dykstra leadoff double and a Quincy “The Dude” walk preceding sacrifice flies by Kevin Keyes and Jason Martinson to give Harrisburg a 2-0 lead after one. Things came to a screeching halt offensively when Adrian Sanchez was gunned down at home on a Cole Leonida double in the top of the 2nd. Starter and loser James Simmons immediately yielded a run in the home 2nd and two more in the bottom of the 4th on a Zach Collier homer. Reading’s Colton Murray lowered his ERA to a tidy 1.64 when he recorded his fourth save.

Lucas “Twinkletoes” Giolito recorded his eighth victory in a 10-6 offensive battle against the West Virginia Power that was not as close as the score indicated. Giolito gave up a two-run homer to Austin Meadows in the 1st. In the 3rd, three one-out singles loaded the bases before an Edwin Espinal groundout to first scored a run. Jake Johansen struggled in relief, giving up two runs in the 7th on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. The Suns pounded starter and loser Dovydas “Bleak Greek” Neverauskas for seven runs in two and 1/3rd innings. They erupted for three doubles and a two run Wilmer Difo homer in a six run third that gave them an 8-1 lead.

Auburn — OFF DAY
The Doubledays return to upstate New York after 4-2 swing through the two borough teams of NYC for a six-game homestand against the Tri-City and Vermont.

The G-Nats took a step back in their quest to overtake the G-Cards, losing 4-0 with three of the four runs coming in the top of the 9th. Omar Poveda took another step closer to getting the hell out of Viera returning to Harrisburg with three scoreless innings. Kyle Simmons took the loss on an unearned run over three frames. The offense was limited to Randy Encarnacion, who went 2-for-3 with a walk, and Dionicio Rosario, who singled and doubled. The rest of the lineup was 0-for-25 with a walk.

Another big inning in early going — five runs in the 3rd — propelled the D-Nats to their eighth straight win, 9-1 over the D-Rojos. Malvin Pena got the start and tossed four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. The win went to Francisco Pinto, who gave up the lone D-Rojos run while pitching two innings. Yonathan Ramirez closed out the game with three innings of one-hit ball for the save. Israel Mota singled, walked, doubled and scored three times while 17-y.o.’s Davinson Piomentel and Telmito Augustin both went 2-for-4 with a run scored as the 3-4-5 combo collected six of the nine D-Nats hits for the game.
