Tyler Moore silenced his critics with a walkoff solo HR in Syracuse’s 2-1 victory last night over the Charlotte Knights. While Moore earned his celebration at home plate, Washington National Blake Treinen did the heavy lifting in a tough-luck no-decision. Treinen did not allow a man past second base until the 7th inning when he gave up a sacrifice fly to Michael BIZARRO BATMAN Taylor that tied the score at 1-1. Xavier Cedeno struck out three in a dominant one and a third innings before Syracuse manager Billy “Slicker Than Willy” Gardner shrewdly played matchups and brought in Washington National Aaron Barrett for the final two outs. Mr. Barrett may have cheered the loudest for Moore’s leadoff ninth inning walkoff because it saved him from having to pitch the tenth and gave him the win.

The Harrisburg Senators did not grace the grounds of Metro Bank Park with much major-league quality talent yesterday in a 5-2 loss to the Reading Fightin’ Phils that wasn’t even that close. None of the professional baseball players for the Senators recorded more than one hit against Severino Gonzalez, a AA journeyman with a 4.93 ERA who they made look like the second coming of Pedro Martinez. Senators starter and loser Felipe Rivero gave up four runs in the first on two doubles, three walks, and a single. Only an outfield assist from centerfielder Drew Vettleson to end the inning prevented further disaster. Reading’s KC Serna tried to hit a baseball to his favorite city in the second, had to settle for clearing the outfield wall with a solo shot. Down 5-0, the Senators put a little bit of lipstick on the pig with a 7th-inning RBI double from Rick Hague and a Brian Jeroloman RBI groundout to score Jason Martinson. Kyle “I Ain’t Rhymin’” Simon pitched two scoreless innings for his second save. With the loss, the Senators were eliminated from the Western Division race.

An error on a drag bunt with one out in the top of the 7th led to both Salem runs. Khayyan Norfolk singled with two outs in the bottom of the 7th and came around to score on a Brandon Miller RBI double, but the tying run was left at second as Pedro Severino lined out to third to end it, and drop the opener, 2-1. Brian Rauh took the loss despite pitching into the 7th for the first time this season while fanning a season-high of seven.

Potomac got an unearned run in the bottom of the 1st but that was it as the Red Sox chipped away and swept both the doubleheader and the series with a 3-1 win in the nightcap. Pedro Encarnacion started and allowed all three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out one. The P-Nats were held to just five hits and left eight men on.

Rain mercifully ended this one early as the BlueClaws eclipsed the Suns, 8-0 in six innings. Nick Pivetta gave up a pair of runs in the 1st and 2nd innings but gutted out five innings total. He was pinched for nine hits, including a two-run HR, and struck out four while suffering his eighth loss. Nick Lee returned from Florida but retired just one of seven batters faced as Lakewood scored four times in the 6th. Ranfi Casimiro, who had lost four of his five previous starts against Hagerstown, finally got the best of them with just two hits (Wilmer Difo, Drew Ward) allowed over six shutout innings.

James Bourque was juiced for three runs in his first inning of relief by the Jammers in a 3-1 loss in Game One. Manny Rodriguez tossed four scoreless innings, giving up one hit and hitting a batter while striking out four in his first NYPL start since 2011. The Doubledays drew first blood with a run in the top of the 1st as Brian Langlois singled and scored on an Austin Davidson double. Auburn outhit Jamestown 5-4 but struck out 11 times in seven innings.

Auburn scored three times with two out in the 7th and got the tying run to third but fell short, 4-3. Austen Williams took the loss, giving up the first three Jamestown runs on four hits and a walk over the first three innings. Drew Van Orden pitched the next three, and let in an unearned run in the 6th that proved to be the difference. Willie Medina went 3-for-3 with a stolen base to lead Doubleday attack of eight hits (seven singles, a Bryan Mejia double).

The hopes of making the playoffs, never mind defending the 2013 GCL Championship, were dimmed with an 11-0 shutout as the G-Cards handed the G-Nats their third straight loss. Joan Baez’s second start in the GCL was much rougher as the G-Cards manhandled him for four runs on six hits and a walk over four innings. Offensively, the G-Nats were AWOL with just two singles, a double, and three walks drawn. Roster move: RHP Erick Fedde placed on the 60-Day DL retroactive to August 8.

The D-Nats put a hurt on the D-Yankees1 with a five-run 3rd and a four-run 5th and held off a late charge for a 12-8 win. Steven Fuentes started but was lifted after three subpar frames with two runs given up on three hits and two walks. The win went to Yonathan Ramirez with three innings of one-run ball. The D-Nats pounded out 12 hits, led by Luis Vilorio who reached base four times with three singles and a walk.
