A two-run walkoff in the 9th dropped Syracuse, 4-2, and into a first-place tie with Pawtucket (percentage points ahead). Taylor Hill turned in his best outing of the month with one run on four hits and three walks but gave up a longball for the sixth straight start. Warner Madrigal took the loss as he gave up a single and a homer with one out in the 9th after pitching a scoreless 8th. Eury Perez scored both Chiefs runs, doubling in the 1st, stealing third, and trotting home on a Tyler Moore two-out double, then homering in the 8th to tie it at 2-2. Brandon Laird singled and doubled as Syracuse was held to just six hits on the afternoon.

Michael Taylor announced his return to the lineup by going Rickey Henderson in the 1st with a leadoff home run, but it was Quincy “The Dude” Latimore’s walkoff blast in the last of the 10th that sent the folks in Harrisburg home happy with a 10-9 win. Starter James Simmons left with a 7-4 lead with one out in the 6th but both runners he turned over to Colin Bates came in while Paul Demny melted down with a three runs in the top of the 9th to put the Senators in a 9-7 hole. Harrisburg rallied to tie at 9-9 when Kevin “Special Ks” Keyes hit a two-run, game-tying single in the next half-inning. The Sens then found their best Derek Self, who stopped the bleeding in the 10th before Q “I Ended You” Latimore connected for his second HR on the night and third in two games.

The P-Nats make the first of three three-game road trips this month with a Friday-to-Sunday series in Zebulon in a rematch of last weekend’s series against the Mudcats, who they swept last weekend. It’s also the beginning of a stretch of 31 games in 32 days as two doubleheaders (19th and 31st) offset the three scheduled off days (4th, 11th, 18th) in August.

Unless someone throws a complete-game shutout over the weekend, odds are Lucas Giolito’s got the Sally Lg. Pitcher of the Week for a second straight week for his effort in a 1-0 neutering of the RiverDogs. The 20-y.o. spun another six scoreless innings, letting up two hits and one walk while “only” striking out six. Wander Suero followed with three more goose eggs to complete the combined three-hit shutout, the ninth this season for the Suns. Charleston’s Chaz Hebert was nearly as brilliant — yes, we can acknowledge this — giving up just the one unearned run off two hits: a two-out Wilmer Difo single, which the defense turned into a “double” with an error, followed by an RBI single by Hagerstown backstop Spencer Kieboom in the 4th.

The Doubledays stormed the Cyclones for 10 runs in the 4th and 5th innings en route to a 14-3 smackdown in Brooklyn. Austen Williams rebounded from a season-worst outing last Friday, with serviceable effort of three runs let in on six hits and a walk over five innings for his first professional win. Any thoughts of a comeback or getting some runs back for pride were squashed by the relief duo of Chase McDowell and Luis Torres with two scoreless inning apiece. Bryan Mejia reached base four times from the #9 spot in the lineup while “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz and Jeff “Call Me Bad, Will You?” Gardner smacked two- and three-run HRs respectively to highlight Auburn’s six-run 5th.

After blowing leads of 3-0 and 7-5, the G-Nats tied the game at 9-9 in the 6th and rallied for four in the 8th to take this see-saw battle, 13-10. Deibi Yrizarri started and was charged with five unearned runs on three hits and three walks with no strikeouts. The win went o Maximo Valerio, who finished off the 6th and allowed one run over the last three innings on two walks (one intentional) and a wild pitch. The 4-5-6 combo of Kelvin Gutierrez, Randy Encarnacion, and Luis Guzman combined to go 7-for-12 with four runs scored, two doubles, two triples and six RBI as the G-Nats pounded out 14 hits total.

Telmito Agustin singled twice and doubled once to lead the D-Nats ten-hit parade, which featured a two-run HR by the still-just-16-y.o. Anderson Franco.
