Shuckit! The Chiefs fell to Pawtucket last night! But they did not do so without a fight. After three PawSox runs over the first five made the home fans feel less than all right, a three run rally by Syracuse made the score tight. A soft single by Jeff “Strobe Kobe” Kobernus to right, scoring Emmanuel “Purest” Burriss, tied the score for sure and was the fans’ fave highlight. But in the bottom of the 9th a vengeful Corey Brown told the fans, “Good night!” He effectively ended the contest with a solo dinger that was out of sight. The final score was 4-3, you see.

The “vengeance is mine” theme of the Syracuse game re-emerged with a two-run blast to left from Chris Marrero in the 1st to give Bowie an early 2-0 lead. Drew Vettleson answered “Not very much” and answered a two run homer to right in the 4th. After Jose Lozada’s RBI single in the top of the 9th gave put Chris Manno, who had entered the game in the 8th in relief of starter Paolo Espino, in position to win, the Brooklyn native returned the favor and gave up the tying run in the bottom of the 9th. When Vettleson came up in the Harrisburg in top of the 10th, Skole and Martinson were on second and third. The sight of him apparently frightened loser Julio “Why’d you have to say my name?” DePaula as he unleashed game-losing wild pitch for the hospitable Baysox. Bryan Harper saved the day with his first save for the Senators with a 1-2-3 tenth.

The P-Nats are going to go into Winston-Salem, which has been house of horrors since BB&T opened in 2010, with some momentum as they defeated the Red Sox, 5-2 for their sixth straight road victory. Oscar Tejeda’s third double of the night was the catalyst in a three-run 8th that broke the 2-2 deadlock as the former Sox farmhand went 4-for-5 on the night and 7-for-13 in the series sweep. Pedro Encarnacion started and went the first four innings, giving up both Salem runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four. Ian Dickson, Travis Henke, and Gilberto Mendez combined for five scoreless to earn the win, hold, and save respectively.
Roster move: RHP Ronald Pena placed on the 7-Day DL; It’s unofficial, but the Potomac Booster club is passing along news that OF Will Piwnica-Worms has decided to retire and enroll in a med-school program at the University of Pennsylvania.

A three-run 3rd was all Hagerstown would need as they defeated Delmarva, 3-1. Wilmer Difo got the Suns on the board first with a two-RBI double after a hit batter and wild pitch. Difo then scored on Isaac Ballou’s double later in the inning. Despite surrendering nine hits, Hector Silvestre allowed only one run to the Shorebirds, with it coming on a balk in the 4th inning. Delmarva threatened in the 7th, but Andrew Cooper escaped the inning and retired the final six batters he faced to earn his second save of the 2014 season. This was Hagerstown’s 11th win in 20 games against Delmarva this year.

Auburn could not overcome an early three-run deficit as they fell to Lowell, 10-2, for their second loss in as many days. Starter Robbie Dickey lasted only two innings, giving up three runs on three hits. The Doubledays then cut the lead to 3-2 in the second, but that would be the only offense they would put up all night. Auburn relievers then imploded, surrendering seven more runs to Lowell in the game, including three in the 3rd and 8th innings.The Doubledays also made three errors, which made two of the Spinners’ 10 runs unearned.

The G-Nats only got three hits but made the G-Mets pay for 10 walks as they took the opener, 8-3. Luis Reyes pitched a season-high of five innings, letting in two runs on six hits and a walk while fanning two for the win. Oliver Ortiz tripled for the sole G-Nat extra-base hit, scored a run, walked twice and drove in three to lead the G-Nats offense.

The G-Nats rallied for three in the bottom of the 4th to pull within one of the G-Mets at 4-3, but couldn’t get over the top as they dropped the second game, 7-4. McKenzie Mills took the loss, with three runs charged on five hits and a walk and zero K’s over two and a 1/3 innings. Dionicio Rosario and Oliver Ortiz both doubled and drove in a run as the G-Nats notched seven hits but no walks.

Two-run outbursts in the 5th, 7th, and 9th innings by the D-Rox broke open a 1-0 game as the D-Nats lost for the fourth time in five games, 7-2. Wilber Pena was chased with one out in the 5th, eventually charged with three runs on six hits and three walks as he struck out three in his fourth loss. The D-Nats offense was stymied for six innings before scoring single runs in the 7th and 9th innings. Andres Martinez and Joshual Ramirez both went 2-for-4 to lead the seven-hit effort.
