The beat rolls on for the mighty Chiefs who pulled off a thrilling 7-6 win over the PawSox. The lead changed hands four times and was tied twice, including the 9th when Xavier “Carry On” Cedeno blew a 6-5 lead and wild pitched in the tying run. But Pawtucket returned the favor by giving the game away with walks in the 9th! A walk for you, Sandy Leon. A sac bunt by organizational soldier Josh Johnson got Leon to second for two shots at a game-winning hit. Kobernus got that hit, but the slow-footed catcher Leon was thrown out at the plate. Zach Walters singled to Kobernus to third. An intentional walk for Steven Souza to set up the double play backfired when Pawtucket’s Drake Britton walked Tyler Moore on four pitches for the walkoff walk.

The Harrisburg Senators scared the [mess] out of the Altoon Curve with a first-inning tally. Michael Taylor mashed a double, advanced to third on a groundout by Caleb Ramsey, and scored on a Matt Skole single to left. The Curve straightened things out quickly with five runs in the bottom of the 1st starting with an Alen Hansom dinger to lead off matters. Two more singles. A double-play escape? No. One needs three outs to end an inning. Hitter (and former pitcher) Stetson Allie drew a walk. Then the lowly Senators extended the inning on a Matt Skole throwing error. Four unearned runs followed and a 5-1 first-inning lead evolved into a 7-4 victory for the Altoona Curve.

In the completion of last Friday’s suspended game in Myrtle Beach, Potomac scored eight unanswered runs while Blake Schwartz tossed five shutout innings to take an 11-6 decision. Mike McQuillan started the smackdown with a two-run shot following a Khayyan Norfork single, as the Pelicans got sloppy and committed two errors to help Potomac along as they scored five in the 6th to take an 8-6 lead. Oscar Tejeda’s two-run single capped off the three-run 7th as the P-Nats put the game away. Tony Renda led the hit column with two singles, two RBI, a double, a stolen base, and three runs scored.

Hector Silvestre tossed six shutout innings and combined with Wander Suero on a three-hitter as the Suns lapped the Intimidators, 3-1. The 20-y.o. southpaw walked four but allowed just one hit while striking out five to secure his fourth “W.” Suero put on six baserunners with two walks, two hits, and two plunks over three innings, but only one crossed home plate as he earned his second save. Rafael Bautista and James Yezzo combined for four of the team’s eight hits, which included Spencer Kieboom’s fourth home run.

The Doubledays racked up nine hits, including extra-base knocks (all doubles, natch) by “Orange,” David Masters, and Dale Carey, who also stole a base.

Pedro Encarnacion started and was lit up for four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two in his second rehab outing. The loss went to Robbie Dickey for letting in the go-ahead run in the 5th as the 20-y.o. Texan struck out three of six batters faced in his pro debut. Thomas Alvarez reached base four times and fell a home run shy of the cycle with a 3-for-3 afternoon and led the 16-hit offense.

Joshual Ramirez’s solo shot in the 10th broke a 4-4 tie and stopped a two-game slide as the D-Nats sunk the D-Mariners, 5-4. The win went to Angher Cespedes for three no-hit innings of relief, with two walks and three strikeouts. Joan Baez got the start, giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks for the no-decision. The D-Nats pounded out 12 hits with five batters notching multiple hits, including Davinson Pimentel, who doubled twice, and Anderson Franco, who tripled and drove in three.
