The Phillies’ AAA club is apparently as bad as its MLB club. They were destroyed by the Syracuse Chiefs last night, 10-2. Offensive leader Steve Souza, phoned in a home run to lead off the 4th. Seven of his brethren followed up with consecutive positive plate appearances with an A.J. “Slaw” Cole sacrifice bunt being the only out recorded. A strike ‘em out (Jeff Kobernus), throw ‘em out (Emmanuel Burriss) ended the inning, but the damage had been done. Six runs was enough for Cole to kick it in cruise and pound the strike zone. Cole walked not one Iron Pig, but did yield two runs on eight hits while sending six of ’em back to the dugout with “K.”
Roster move: RHP Mitch Lively assigned from Washington. You probably already knew he’s a former Oakland N.L. West-team farmhand.

The Harrisburg Senators won a thriller in Richmond last night. After an opening tally by Richmond in the bottom of the 3rd, Michael “BATMAN” Taylor promptly erased the evil deficit by leading off the 4th with a solo shot. Harrisburg continued its picket fence with a one-out double by Drew Vettleson and a clutch two-out RBI single by Adrian Sanchez to score him in the top of the 5th. A leadoff double by Rick “The Stick” Hague, a Matt Skole single, and a Kevin Keyes walk loaded the bases for what should have been the knockout blow. But Richmond replaced Kelvin Marte with Jose Casilla, who whiffed Jason Martinson, then yielded a bunt single to complete the picket fence but escaped further damage with lineout double play. Manno’s Minions will be disappointed to learn he issued the walk and the double that led to Richmond tying up the contest at 3-3 in the 7th. Martinson crushed the Flying Squirrels hopes with a two-out homer in the top of the 11th. Robert Benincasa got the win while Colin Bates got the save

The Shorebirds erupted for four in the 6th to break open a 3-1 game as they cruised to an 8-3 win over the Suns. Jake Johansen made it through five, but was strafed for four runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out five for his fifth loss. Hagerstown was limited to just four hits though two of them were doubles by Wilmer Difo and James Yezzo, who both went 1-for-3.

If they didn’t already know it, the Doubledays learned you can’t spot a 24-9 team a 6-0 lead and still win. But they tried, as they rallied for four in the 5th but ultimately fell short with a 7-6 loss. James Bourque was riddled for eight hits and six runs over four and a 1/3rd innings with only one earned run “thanks” to three Willie Medina throwing errors (four total) in the Renegades five-run 2nd. Raudy Read’s three-run HR sparked aforementioned 5th with “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz going 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Auburn offense.
Roster move: CF Alec Keller placed on the 60-Day DL.

Turnabout is fair play as the G-Nats reversed the score of Thursday with a 4-2 win over the G-Marlins on Friday. Daury Vasquez got the start and gave up one run on two hits with no walks and one whiff over three innings. Cole Plouck got the win in relief, Maximo Valerio got the save as the two combined for four and 2/3rds scoreless innings to finish out the game. Kelvin Gutierrez went 3-for-4 with a walk and a triple to lead the G-Nats attack.

Sandy Guerrero’s solo shot in the 3rd pulled the D-Nats within two at 3-1 but it was all downhill from here as the D-Giants piled on 11 more for 14-1 demolition. Carlos Acevedo took the loss, allowing those first three runs on seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Just five of the D-Giant runs were earned thanks to seven errors, four by Francys Peguero while positioned near third base. Guerrero also singled to go 2-for-4 as the D-Nats were held to just six hits.
