A five-run 2nd erased an early 1-0 lead for the G-Braves as the Chiefs cruised to a 6-1 lead. Aaron Laffey went seven strong innings with just that one run on allowed on three hits and three walks while striking out six for his 11th win. Steve Souza menaced the opposing hurlers with two doubles, two walks, and three RBI while Josh Johnson reached base three times with two walks and a single as Syracuse took advantage of seven walks to score six times on seven hits.

The Senators scored in three of the first four frames to build a 5-2 lead but lost it in the 8th for a 6-5 loss to Altoona in the series finale. Brian Dupra pitched into the sixth with four runs let in on six hits and four walks but got the no-decision. In the 8th, Robert Benincasa issued a one-out walk and committed an error on the subsequent sacrifice, which plated the tying run and moved the would-be out all the way to third. The 23-y.o. struck out the next batter but gave up the gamewinner to Alen Henson on a single. Cole Leonida reached base four times with two walks, a single, and a double to pace the 12-hit, seven-walk Harrisburg attack.

Kannapolis hit ’em hard, hit ’em early, and hit ’em often in a 12-7 beatdown of Hagerstown. Nick Pivetta gave up five runs via the longball (nos. 9 and 10) and eight runs total on nine hits as he was chased with one out in the third for his fifth loss. Drew Ward went 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI while Spencer Kieboom and Carlos Lopez both homered. The rest of the lineup went just 4-for-23 and was unable to fully capitalize on the eight walks issued by the Intimidators.

The Crosscutters brought out the lumber while Doubledays managed just three hits in a 4-1 loss. Austen Williams was knocked around for three runs on six hits and two walks over three and 2/3rds innings for the loss. Deion Williams was brilliant in relief, stranding two to keep Auburn within striking distance at 3-1 and fanning six but gave up a solo HR for the final 4-1 score. Raudy Read doubled while Austin Davidson and Jose “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz both singled to account for the feeble offense.

After a 1-3 week with two washouts, it’s a busy week ahead for the G-Nats, who play three against the Marlins, then five against the Mets with doubleheaders scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Things weren’t much better in the D.R. as the D-Nats went 2-4 to drop into a fourth-place tie with the D-Mets1 in the Boca Chica South at 17-14.
