A Tyler Moore homer broke up the Buffalo shutout, while Brandon Laird singled and Destin Hood walked to put the tying runs on base but the Chiefs couldn’t connect for one more hit and fell by a 3-1 score. Taylor Hill lost his third straight start, giving up a third-inning solo shot in the 3rd and three hits total while walking three and striking out two. Eury Perez butchered a line drive in the 5th for a three-base error to send in what proved to be the deciding runs as the Bisons scored two unearned runs off Josh Roenicke. Moore and Laird both went 2-for-4 as the Syracuse offense was limited to six hits and two walks total on the afternoon.

The starter was pushed an inning too far, the offense got going an inning too late as the Senators fell to the Fisher Cats, 5-3. Zach Kroenke had a quality start going until he was charged with two more in the 7th to account for all five New Hampshire runs on eight hits, including two homers. Harrisburg drew two walks, smacked two singles, and connected for two sacrifice flies to score all three runs in the 8th inning. The Sens were held to six hits and six walks total as they dropped their 62nd game and 20 games below .500.

Potomac dug themselves out of a 5-2 hole to tie it at 6-6 then broke through for three in the 11th to avoid the series sweep, 9-6 against Winston-Salem. Rain delayed the start of this nearly 90 minutes, perhaps affecting starter Matt Spann as the southpaw was knocked around for five runs on seven hits and four walk over two and 2/3rds innings. Richie Mirowski, Jake Walsh, and Gilberto Mendez combined for eight and 1/3rd innings of one-run (on a homer, natch) relief with Mendez getting the win, his sixth. Oscar Tejeda remains red-hot as the former Red Sox farmhand went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI to lead the Potomac attack.

Third Baseman John Wooten was the hero for Hagerstown on Thursday as he drove in the winning run in the 13th inning to give the Suns a 5-4 victory over the Intimidators. The three-hour and 44-minute marathon was a see-saw battle early on as the two teams traded runs in the opening innings of the game. Kannapolis then tied it up in the 8th inning as Suns reliever Sam Johns surrendered a solo shot to Tyler Williams. Andrew Cooper earned his seventh win on the season, pitching a 1/3 inning in the 13th before Hagerstown scored in the bottom half of the inning. With the win, Hagerstown improves to 7-1 in extra-inning games in the 2014 season.

Auburn was first to score, but could not hold the lead as they fell to State College, 5-3 in the opener. After the Doubledays scored single runs in the 1st and 4th innings, their lead disappeared as starter James Bourque allowed four runs on one hit in the 5th inning. None of the runs were earned as Auburn committed two fielding errors during the frame. The Doubledays added an additional run in the 6th inning, but that was the extent of their scoring for the game. Auburn had runners on second and third in the 9th, but were unable to score as Brandon Miller struck out to the end the game.

Luis Guzman’s two-run homer in the 6th broke open a 2-2 game as the G-Nats held off the G-Cards for a 4-3 win. Jose Morales made his second start in seven appearances and tossed five shutout frames with six baserunners allowed via one hit, two hit batsmen, and three walks. His would-be win turned into a no-decision as the G-Cards scored two in the top of the 6th off D.J. Jauss, who walked three and uncorked three wild pitches while giving up two hits in 2/3rds of an inning. Jean Ramirez preserved the tie by stranding two runners in the 6th then finishing the game with one unearned run over the final three innings. “Fred” Aguero went 3-for-4 to lead the G-Nats 12-hit attack while Guzman and Kelvin Gutierrez both went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The D-Nats put up crooked numbers three times as they pounded out 14 hits in a 7-1 rout of the D-Yankees1. Joan Baez went the first four innings, giving up a run on four hits and four walks while striking out four. The win went to Yonathan Ramirez, who also issued four free passes and set down four on strikes over the next three innings. Victor Robles led the hit column with two singles, a double, and a triple in five at-bats.
