Austin Voth Named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week
After flirting with a no-hitter for five innings, Austin Voth “only” threw seven shutout innings last Friday, but it was enough to win the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honor for July 7th to the 13th.
Voth, whose name rhymes with “both,” struck out a season-best of eight and walked one, which cost him the perfect game in the 5th, but won for the second time in four starts for Potomac.
Overall, the 22-y.o. native of Washington state is 6-3 with a 1.88 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP in 17 starts between Low-A and High-A, where his current pitcher’s line looks like an SEC football player’s GPA in the spring, fall, and winter at 0.35/2.43/0.50.
In 26 innings for the P-Nats, he’s allowed nine hits and four walks while striking out 28.
Originally drafted in the 5th Rd. last year The Univ. of Washington, Voth blew through three levels in 2013, making seven of eleven starts for the Auburn Doubledays where he was 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP, which earned him a place on this site’s 2014 Watchlist for RHPs.
That was a no brainer
Looks like Ryan Perry is the latest
Rehabbed on mikey Barrett’s GCL
Nats squad.
Soul drummer. You think Sens could use
His arm in pen again??
Sens can use anybody they can get. They aren’t very good!
Looks like Langlois back to auburn
And Wooten active for Suns
This kid could pitch 3 solid pitches and 100% a control guy
I’ll be very interested to see where Sickels and the prospect heads rank Mr. Voth come next year’s prospect books. Seems like a fellow who is just going about his business mastering the level and setting himself up for an important year at Harrisburg next year. I have no idea where he fits into the rotation plans in DC, however, and I’ve got to see him more as Robbie Ray lite trade chip for a big club heading to the playoffs than likely to hit DC in a Nats uniform. Doesn’t bother me a bit as long as our guys get to The Show and preferably the All-Star Game like always my man Derek Norris.
