Catching Up On Transactions (UPDATED)

June 17, 2014

Shuffling The Deck
Posting from the road office in Nashville, Tennessee… The shuffling of rosters at the Class-A All-Star Breaks has begun, though it’s up and down the ladder:

SYRACUSE
• LHP Matt Grace reassigned from Harrisburg
• RHP Rafael Martin reassigned from Harrisburg
• RHP James Simmons reassigned from Harrisburg
• RHP Ryan Mattheus, OF Destin Hood placed on 7-Day DL (Hood retroactive to 6/15)
• IF Jose Lozada activated from the 7-Day DL
• RHP Ryan Tatusko placed on 3-Day TIL

POTOMAC
• RHP Austin Voth promoted from Hagerstown

AUBURN
• RHP Phillips Valdez reassigned from Hagerstown
• LHPs Cory Bafidis, David Napoli reassigned from Hagerstown

In a season chock-full of needs-based moves, it’s hard to tell how many of these moves are permanent. Best guess: Voth stays in High-A where pitching is needed while at least two of the Harrisburg-to-Syracuse moves will be undone a la Brian Dupra last week. Likewise, I’d posit that at least one of the Hagerstown-to-Auburn moves will be reversed as this appears that the Nationals want these guys available and/or working with coaches.

UPDATE: One move that is permanent is that of Ryan Tatusko, who I can confirm has been sold to the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball League as noted in the comments. He will rejoin former teammate and former Nationals farmhand Caleb Clay (H/T Geoff Morrow, Mick Reinhard).

All these moves including the Harper buzz
Following in Grace footsteps still leaves
Hagerstown down a starter unless Anderson
Goes with a bullpen start or a mooneyham
    Rehab period ???
Man, Jefry Rodrieguez sure could put on
    15 pounds in time
Bummer about Tatusko but his DL opens up chance
    For Simmons
And all these guys still on the DL down the ladder!

Further thought : Anderson may end
Up running Andrew Cooper out every fifth
Followed by those five lefties in the bullpen
Who should run up the IP!
All of us look forward to healthy arms
    Coming off the DL
Dittos to the laffey, espino, Simmons
Zach K and Poveda. Buying time for DL
    Lists

any significance between reassigned and promoted?

Using the more neutral verb to account for the possibility the move is only temporary. Unfortunately, with so many injuries this year, it’s also become a necessity.

    Hey Luke,

The totals on your draft tracker are off by one.

Looks like Tutusko was sold to Japan.

I guess Rizzo could not get any kids for him.
    Expected papa headed to japan.
Does brass want to promote Cole to chiefs
Thus leaving sens with free agent signings
    As starters .
    Very interesting

    Simmons to chiefs
Dupra takes his slot in sens rotation?

Indeed. Dupra is slated to start Friday night again.
