Syracuse 7 Pawtucket 0
• Rosenbaum (W, 1-1) 6⅔IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 5K
• Delcarmen 1⅓IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Souza 3-4, R, HR, 5RBI, BB
• Walters 2-5, R, 3B
• Rhymes 2-5, R, 2B
Three Chiefs pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as Syracuse avoided the sweep with a 7-0 win over Pawtucket. Danny Rosenbaum got his first win with just two hits and two walks given up over six and 2/3rds innings while striking out five. Steve Souza Jr. was a one-man wrecking crew, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and five RBI, three of which came when he dialed long distance in the 3rd inning. Zach Walters and Will “Don’t Call Me Buster” Rhymes also went 2-for-5 with an extra base hit, with Walters tripling and Rhymes doubling. Roster move: OF Erik Komatsu reassigned from Auburn (XST).
New Britain 5 Harrisburg 4
• Schwartz (L, 0-2) 4⅔IP, 8H, 5R, 4ER, 4BB, 2K, HR
• Herron 1⅔IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Martinson 3-4, 2R, 3B
• Hood 2-4, R, RBI
The longball remains the Achilles heel for Blake Schwartz as another three-run home run was his undoing in a 5-4 Harrisburg loss to New Britain. The damage was done early as the Rock Cats pounced on the Minnesota native for the Earl Weaver special in the 1st inning. Schwartz would give up all five runs (four earned) on eight hits and four walks for his second loss. Zack Jackson and Tyler Herron each turned one and 2/3rds scoreless innings to keep the Senators in striking distance. Jason Martinson went 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, followed by Destin Hood with a 2-for-4 effort as Harrisburg rapped out 10 hits total.
Lynchburg 10 Potomac 7
• Rauh (L, 0-1) 2⅔ IP, 9H, 8R, 4ER, 0BB, 3K, HR
• Dickson 3⅓IP, 2H, R, ER, BB, K, HR, 1-0 IR-S
• McQuillan 0-2, 2BB
• Renda 2-4

Delmarva 5 Hagerstown 3
• Voth (L, 0-1) 4⅔IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, 3BB, 6K
• Hollins 1⅔IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 1K
• Difo 3-5, 2B, RBI
• Bautista 3-4, 2R, 3B, RBI
The Shorebirds took the rubber game of the three-game series with a 5-3 win over the Suns. Austin Voth took the loss with four runs allowed on five hits and three walks over four and 2/3rds innings. He struck out six. The leadoff man (Wilmer Difo) and the No. 9 man (Rafael Bautista) combined for two runs, two RBI, four singles, a double and a triple. But the other seven guys had but four hits and
whiffed 11 times.
Is that the first good start for a Chiefs SP this year?
I thought Hill, Tatusko and Treinen were all decent in their first appearances. Tatusko’s was just a 3ip stint; is he a starter or a swingman? And interestingly Hill is getting skipped/swapped in the rotation just one time through. weird.
An observation and a couple of questions … Bautista hasn’t let a skipped Auburn affect his play.
What has happened to Ward? Also, what’s the word on Kieboom, Luke? He’s not on the watch list so I was wondering about his defensive game and is his offence at the beginning to this season for real?
As stated previously, unless I witness the injury, I never assume that a player put on the DL is actually hurt. There is no mention from either the official gamer or the Suns Fan Club blog, nor was Ward removed from the April 5 game.
Kieboom is under the “Notable Bats” this year and was listed as one of the catchers for the 2013 edition until his surgery was revealed. He had a very strong 2012 season, his first, so it’s not unfathomable that he’s hitting well, but as also remarked before, folks should temper their enthusiasm until a player or pitcher works his way through the league at least once.
Ward is on the DL with an upper respiratory infection according to the Hagerstown radio broadcast injury report. I also saw it on twitter from Byron Kerr.
