Jhonatan “The Onion” Solano made the Louisville Bats weep tears of agony with his mighty stick last night. Solano’s one-out, two-run dinger off of last year’s Colorado Rockie Jeff Francis in the 6th was the highlight of his 4-for-4 night with eight total bases night and gave the Chiefs a decisive 3-0 advantage. Taylor Hill continued to make his case for next man up in DC with a sterling quality start of seven innings of one-run ball, walking one and striking out six. Brian Goodwin’s triple to left in the 4th plated Solano and gave Syracuse an initial 1-0 lead. Eury Perez generated a key insurance run to give the Chiefs a 4-1 lead in the 7th when he singled, stole second, and later scored on a Josh Johnson single, although Johnson was thrown out trying to advance to second. Syracuse scored its final run in the eighth. Solano singled to lead off the frame, took second on a Brandon Laird walk, and scored on a Jose Lozada single to give the Chiefs a 5-1 lead. While closer of the evening, Ryan Mattheus gave up a run in the 9th to make the final score 5-2, the Chiefs clinched a rare road series victory and returned to .500 for just the first time in three weeks.
Roster moves: RHP Christian Garcia placed on the 7-Day DL, retroactive to April 22.

Altoona completed its four-game sweep of Harrisburg with a 6-1 takedown. Matt Purke served up a three-run homer to pitcher-turned-hitter Stetson Allie to lowlight a four-run 1st. He would follow with three scoreless innings for a line of four runs on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts, but took his fourth loss in his fourth start. Offensively, Harrisburg managed just four hits and could only cash in one of six walks drawn. Cutter Dykstra drove in the sole Senator run after Ricky Hague and Michael Taylor drew back-to-back walks to lead off the 8th.

The Suns scored early and often and held off a surge by the Power for a 7-5 wi, their third straight. Dixon Anderson got the benefit of the strong support as he was hit hard for five runs on 10 hits and one walk over five innings, four of which came in the 5th. John Simms finished the game with four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while setting down five on strikes. Rafael Bautista and Craig Manuel both homered while Drew Ward twice connected on RBI singles to run his season total to 14 in 11 games. Roster moves: SS David Masters placed on the 7-Day DL; IF Brennan Middleton recalled from XST. Middleton, a 14th Rd. pick from Tulane, will make his pro debut if/when he plays for the Suns, as the 23-y.o. did not play last summer due to an ankle injury.
