Final Winter League Update
With the close of the Venezuelan Winter League earlier this week, we can kill some time take a final look at how the notable Nats minor-leaguers did in Winter baseball last year 😉

Things have slowed to the usual crawl on the minor-league front. As the slash-through joke implies, if I weren’t writing this, I might be typing something else, which folks to the north of the DMV very well may be with the first Nor’easter of 2014 bearing down on them tonight. I don’t expect much in the next BA transaction post, so I’ll be working on the essays and the player reports as best as I can until the new scouting books arrive in the mail.
Yes the minor league F/A list has been
Picked @ like the leftover holiday bird, plus
If we move down a few names from 40 man to go along
With Syr spot ons and project able Sens such
As Justin Bluxom and SS then chiefs and
Sens look solid locked in .
Good infield / outfield variety @ AAA /AA
Although Michael Burgess would still be
A nice mentor ship sign for Potomac so
Lippencott does not have to be rushed
Or the Caleb Ramsey GPS can be determined
Herron is older, I know. But he was very good last year and obviously outstanding this winter. Is he somebody that one could get excited about or not?
Love this kid, Taylor. Potencially better than Goodwin in my opinion. Any comments from any of you guys who have actually seen them in person.
Really interesting, because in the last update Taylor had a 5:33 BB:K ratio, and now finished the season 13:38, which don’t look nearly as bad. Over those last 19 ABs, he went 6/19 with a triple, HR and 8 walks, which is three more than he had in his previous 118. It makes me wonder if he was instructed to be very aggressive to start the winter league, which would explain the K and BB rates…
Taylor had a hard time laying off breaking pitches away from time to time, so my personal interpretation is that he started where he left off and then took some walks instead. It was maddening to watch because there were times when he *could* go with those pitches and get a hit.
Rooting for Hood to turn the corner
Keyes could really show off his pop
On City Island same with Cole Leo—
Daubach could use that older guy @ AA
Like Head did last summer.
Michael Burgess??
I think the ship has sailed on Destin Hood, although I hope I’m wrong. He’s rapidly turning in to an organizational guy.
The 2 names that jump out with these stats are Leon & Taylor. Leon was so bad at the plate in 2013 that you have to hope the winter league stats mean he’s going back to 2012 form at the plate. As Luke says, the glove & arm are already major league ready.
Snow falls on .. Where you read this…
MarkL you may be right … Cue that billy Joel song…
Lol… I may be crazy….
Anyway hood is a rare Bowden pick still
Around ! Last chance saloon for Destin
The next thought turns to Estarlin Martinez.
Will his wrists ever turn up the volume
On his HR totals or was Hagerstown not home
Cooking for him?? He goes to Potomac or not?
Nats did add Wooten and have Kelso healthy!
