As in years past, a disclaimer: the sample sizes here are small and unreliable, which of course won’t stop folks from checking (or me from posting 😉
Guess that Sanchez is not taking up switch-hitting again. perhaps more about learning the smaller parts of
the game for future coaching gigs??
Ribero going to play ORG guy @ SYR again in 14?
I read this blog daily and post once every month or so (ha,ha). I had high hopes for Rafael Martin and I realize those hopes were foolish but its neat to see him pop up again. My question is, will players like Martin and Maya stay in our system? and how would that work. Maya made a bunch of money and I hope he invested it. Will either of them ever have a chance to pitch in the Majors or is it cut and dried that they just don’t have the talent. One last question, who will make the decision on Garcia being a starter or reliever? Is that going to be our new manager, Rizzo, pitching coach or a combination of staff. Thanks
Maya and Martin are just as free to re-sign with the Nats as any other team. That said I don’t see it, especially with Maya. Rizzo is going to hope that we all just forget about that little fiasco. And yes, I’d comfortably wager some serious coin that he will not be again seen in an MLB park other than as a patron, and Martin’s shot has come and gone as well.
As for Garcia, another lost season should quell forever the idea that he can ever handle a starter’s workload, plus unlike last offseason the Nats now have numerous SP prospects who are getting close to being MLB ready.
The Nats still have ‘Beer League’ Martin’s rights for at least 2-3 more years. I think he’s only been in the system for 3 years if I remember correctly.
Curious to see if kids like Estarkin Martinez
And Jean Carlos Valdez play winter ball
