Picking where they left things off in lovely Moosic, PA on July 12, Josh Johnson singled with two outs and stole 2nd and 3rd but was stranded there when Jhonatan Solano flew out to right. Mike Crotta took over on the mound and retired three of four he faced in the 12th, but a leadoff walk, stolen base, and a pair of singles pushed him around to score to give the RailRiders the win.

In ther regularly scheduled game, Yunesky Maya went eight innings for the second time in three starts as Syracuse split the de facto doubleheader with a 3-2 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The almost-32-y.o. Cuban let in two runs on five hits, no walks, and struck out five while evening his record at 7-7 for the year. Corey Brown singled, doubled and scored a run as the Chiefs collected eight hits for the night, with Tyler Moore, Josh Johnson, and Jhonatan Solano delivering RBIs via the sac fly, single, and double respectively.

A.J. Cole struck out 10 and seemed headed for his third AA win in as many starts when the Sens scored three times in the 7th. The Harrisburg bullpen faltered in the 9th and gave up four unanswered runs for a 4-3 loss in 12 innings. Cole gave up a solo HR in the 2nd but just four hits and no walks over seven innings. Aaron Barrett blew the save with three straight hits to open the inning and let in two runs to tie it. Ryan Perry took the loss without giving up a hit, thought two walks and a wild pitch would suffice. Billy Burns singled twice, walked once, and stole his first AA base but the Senators would strand 14 baserunners while going 3-for-14 with RISP.

A two-out, two-run triple was the difference as Potomac lost again to Carolina, 5-4. Sammy Solis failed to go five innings for the fourth time in nine appearances, tagged for three runs on seven hits and a walk over four and a 1/3rd innings while striking out four. Brandon Miller continues to rake, going 2-for-4 for the fourth straight game as the P-Nats notched nine hits and drew three walks in the loss.

Brett Mooneyham and Derek Self combined on a two-hit shutout as the Suns took another one from Lakewood, 3-0. Mooneyham did, however, issue four walks including two to the last two batters he faced with one out in the 8th. He gave up a first-inning single and struck out seven to tie Pedro Encarnacion for the team lead in wins. Derek Self stranded both runners and pitched around a ninth-inning double for his fourth save. Shawn Pleffner singled, doubled, and walked while Pedro Severino drove in two with a triple to pace the Suns offense.

Auburn rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the 9th, but gave it right back in the 10th for a 10-9 loss to Aberdeen, ending a three-game win streak. Jake Joyce took the loss, giving up the final four Ironbird runs on five hits and two walks in the 9th and 10th innings. Joel Barrientos got the no-decision, charged with five runs on nine hits and two walks over four and 2/3rds. Matt Foat led the 15-hit attack with a 4-for-5 night, scoring twice and driving in a run. Issac Ballou, Greg Zebrack and Matt Reistetter each drew two walks as the Doubledays were walked eight times total. Roster move: RHP Nick Pivetta reassigned from the GCL.

Hector Silvestre tossed five scoreless frames to win his fifth while the G-Nats ran their latest win streak to 10 with a 9-0 shutout of the G-Cards. Silvestre gave up two hits, walked none and struck out one. A quartet of relievers followed, each pitching a scoreless inning. Adderling Ruiz went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the G-Nats attack of 11 hits and three walks.

In a game that had been suspended on July 18 and unreported the morning after, the D-Nats rallied in extras to defeat the Orioles2, 7-6. Luis Torres started and went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with four K’s. Jonathan Aquino got the win despite giving up two unearned runs in the top of 13th, “thanks” to his own thowing error on a botched sacrifice. The D-Orioles2 returned the favor in the bottom of the 13th with their fifth error. Dionicio Rosario sent in the runner that reached with an RBI double, Brayan Serrata followed Rosario with his second RBI triple of the game to tie it, and Edwin Lora drove in Serrata with an RBI single for the gamewinner.
