Yunesky Maya tossed his first complete game as professional as Syracuse took the opener versus Louisville, 3-1. The Cuban veteran gave up a run on HR and three hits total over the seven innings while striking out six. Eury Perez, Jeff Kobernus, Danny Espinosa, and Jhonatan Solano each had two hits. Kobernus and Solano both doubled while Perez and Espinosa each drove in a run.

No such luck for Ryan Tatusko in the nightcap as the Hoosier Sycamore gave up a solo shot in the 5th in a 3-0 shutout loss in the nightcap. The 28-y.o. took the loss with one run on four hits and two walks over four and 2/3rds. He set down six on strikes. Danny Espinosa and Zach Walters both went 1-for-3 with a double, two of the four hits the Chiefs would manage.
Roster moves: C Kelly Shoppach elected free agency, granted his release; C Kris Watts activated from 7-Day DL.

A.J. Cole shut down Trenton for six innings while Harrisburg scored four times on miscues in a 5-3 matinee win. Cole gave up an unearned run on four hits and three walks while fanning six to win for the second time in two AA starts. The Senators mustered just four singles, but got the breaks as two-out throwing errors plated one in the 3rd and two in the 7th and a wild pitch scored one in the 4th. Carlos Rivero’s bases-loaded walk, the 6th issued by the Thunder, was the sole earned run by Harrisburg. Tyler Herron struck out four over the final two innings to get the save, his second for the Senators.

Potomac — OFF DAY
The P-Nats return home for a brief four-game homestand after a 5-2 road trip through Lynchburg and Salem that’s extended their lead in the C.L. North to seven games with 34 games to play. Tonight’s a continuation of a suspended game from June 27th followed by a seven-inning contest.

Brandon Miller’s two-run double in the top of the 10th proved to be the game-winner in a 4-2 extra-innings win in Lakewood. Starter Pedro Encarnacion allowed both Blue Claws runs on five hits and two walks and struck out seven but did not receive the decision. Travis Henke and Gilberto Mendez each pitched two innings of scoreless, no-hit relief with Mendez striking out five and walking two to get the win, his second. Miller, Tony Renda, and Craig Manuel combined for six of Hagerstown’s ten hits and all four Suns doubles.

The Doubledays came within two outs of being no-hit in a 7-0 loss to the Spinners. Cody Dent and Isaac Ballou singled in the 9th to prevent the no-no, but were stranded to preserve the shutout. Starter R.C. Orlan was hammered for six runs on eight hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out two and hit two batters. The loss was Auburn’s 30th and third straight as the Doubledays have still not won consecutive games.

GCL Nationals 2 GCL Cardinals 1 — GAME ONE

Nick Pivetta won his first professional game with five strong innings as the G-Nats continue to roll, taking the opening game of the doubleheader, 2-1. Pivetta pitched five innings of two-hit ball, giving up an unearned run but walking none with two K’s. Phillips Valdez followed with two scoreless frames for his second save. Diomedes Eusebio’s two-run HR in the 4th provided the offense Pivetta and Valdez would need to get the win and save, respectively.

GCL Nationals 3 GCL Cardinals 2 — GAME TWO

The G-Nats ran their latest winning streak to five games with a 3-2 win in the second game of the doubleheader. Hector Silvestre ran his record to 4-0 with one mistake (a solo HR) and three hits total over five innings. The 20-y.o. Dominican southpaw walked two and struck out five. Drew Ward hit his first professional home, a two-run shot in the 4th, while going 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the G-Nats offense. He Who Must Not Be Named was assigned to the GCL from Hagerstown for minor-league rehab.

The D-Cubs shut out the D-Nats on seven hits, 5-0. Mario Sanchez got the start and the loss, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk while fanning four. Kelvin Gutierrez and Aldrem Corredor both went 2-for-4 as the D-Nats lost for the fifth time in seven meetings.
