The Thunder struck for eight runs against the Sens ‘pen, turning a 3-1 game after five innings into an 11-3 beating in the series opener. Starter Rob Gilliam took the loss, letting in three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four. Pat McCoy took the brunt of the eight runs scored in the final two innings, letting in three inherited runners and giving up four runs of his own over an inning and 2/3rds. Justin Bloxom singled, doubled, and homered while going 3-for-4 to lead the Harrisburg offense.

Today’s off day couldn’t be better timed for Potomac, as the ‘pen was taxed for nearly eight innings in a 6-5 extra-innings walkoff loss to Salem. Starter Paul Demny failed to make it past the third inning for the second straight start since his demotion, knocked for two runs on three hits and three walks over just two innings. Cutter Dykstra’s two-run shot in the 5th and a three-run rally in the 7th built a 5-2 lead, but Salem responded with two in the 7th and one in the 8th to tie it at 5-5. Brian Dupra suffered the loss in the 10th on a Little League home run a two-out triple and an error.

Lakewood snapped a 1-1 tie in the 4th with a two-run HR and held on for a 4-2 win over Hagerstown. Starter Kylin Turnbull pitched into 5th but took the loss as he gave up the big fly plus eight other hits for three runs (all earned), as he walked one, and fanned five over four and 2/3rds innings. Narciso Mesa scored twice while going 3-for-4 with a walk to lead the hit column for Hagerstown. Overall the Suns flailed with runners on, going 2-for-15 while stranding 13 baserunners.

Auburn rallied for three in the 7th to shave a five-run lead down to two, but couldn’t get any closer as Lowell spun them for a 6-4 loss. Joel Barrientos lost his fourth game, giving up five runs on 10 hits and a walk while hitting a batter. He struck out four. Bryan Lippincott went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI before he was lifted for a pinch runner in the 9th (listed as RHP Manny Rodriguez, more likely it was OF Wilman) to lead the hit column for the Doubledays, who collected 11 hits but left on 10 baserunners.

Wander Suero got the win with five innings pitched, allowing two hits, no walks, striking out four. Hector Silvestre and Pat Lehman both turned in two scoreless relief innings. Osvaldo Abreu went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base to pace the G-Nats 11-hit attack.

The D-Nats were held to just five hits, with Thomas Alvarez the sole batter to reach base twice as he walked and doubled while going 1-for-3.
