Syracuse vs Rochester — PPD
Syracuse was rained out for the seventh time on Monday, but will attempt to make it up tonight for an actual two for Tuesday.
Roster moves: RHP Erik Davis optioned from Washington; OF-1B Micah Owings released.
Erie 1 Harrisburg 0
• Hill (L, 1-1) 7IP, 6H, R, ER, BB, 3K, HR
• Barrett 1IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Martinson 1-3
• Hood 1-3
• Lozada 1-3, 3B
Jose Lozada’s one-out triple in the 6th broke up a string of 18 hitless innings for the Senators, who were shut out again, 1-0 in Erie. Starter Taylor Hill basically matched his previous outing with a run over seven innings, albeit on a home run, but took the loss. He gave up six hits total, walked one, and struck out three. Destin Hood and Jason Martinson also singled as Harrisburg managed just three hits and one walk on offense. For those wondering, sources say that Karns’ start was shifted to Wednesday from last night to give him more time to work with coaches on “stuff,” which usually means mechanics.
Winston-Salem 5 Potomac 3
• Schwartz 6IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 4K, HR
• Wort (L, 1-1) 1IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 0K
• Soriano 3-4, R
• Keyes 2-4, R, HR, RBI
The P-Nats bullpen woes resurfaced Last Night In Woodbridge.
Roster moves: LHP Matt Purke promoted from Hagerstown. His first start is scheduled for Thursday.
Hagerstown 6 West Virginia 2
• Lee (W, 2-2) 7IP, 5H, 0R, BB, 9K
• Self (SV, 1) 1⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 2-0 IR-S
• Pleffner 4-5, 2R, 2-2B
• Perez 3-4, R, 2RBI
A four-run 4th plus Nick Lee’s strongest outing to date added up to a 6-2 Hagerstown win over West Virginia. Lee tossed seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk while fanning nine. Derek Self stranded two in the 8th and worked around a double in the 9th for his first save with the Suns. Shawn Pleffner singled, doubled, and scored twice as part of a 4-for-5 night, while Stephen Perez went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI as the Hagerstown offense produced 13 hits total.
Auburn vs. Batavia — PPD
The rain that soaked Syracuse also bathed Batavia, postponing the game to an undetermined date as it will not be on Wednesday. Auburn visits Batavia three more times in late August (21, 22, 27).
Roster moves: RHP Austin Dicharry released; LHP Justin Thomas promoted from the GCL.
GCL Nationals vs. GCL Marlins — PPD
Rain washed out Monday’s game between the Marlins and Nationals. It will be made up today with a doubleheader.
DSL Nationals vs. DSL Rojos — GNR
Game Not Reported.
Today is the “New Year” for IFAs and there have been whispers that the Nationals will be spending up to half of their $1.85MM bonus pool in August to sign the #29 prospect, Anderson Franco, a not-yet-16 (DOB: 8/15/97) third baseman who’s the reverse of the usual scouting report for Dominicans his age (polished defender, raw on offense). At 6’1″ and 185 lbs, the projection is for power but not a lot of speed. His arm is considered one of the best in the D.R.(H/T to Brian Oliver for putting this on our radar).
