Louisville’s Yohan Pino threw a two-hit shutout, outdueling Yunesky Maya for a 1-0 getaway game win over Syracuse. A wild pitch on a strikeout by Corey Brown produced the first Chiefs baserunner and ended the perfect-game bid. Chris Rahl’s two-out single in the same inning (the 5th) quashed the no-hitter while Jeff Kobernus’s double in the 6th produced the third and final Syracuse baserunner. Maya went eight innings and gave up seven hits, four in the 3rd when the Bats got their lone run.

A.J. Cole tossed seven innings of one-run ball to win his AA debut as the Senators edged the Sea Dogs, 2-1. The 21-y.o. gave up a solo home run with two outs in the 7th and three hits total while issuing a walk and setting down six on strikes. With Aaron Barrett unavailable due to a lower leg issue (tight calf), Tyler Herron closed out the game with two scoreless innings for his first save for Harrisburg. Destin Hood went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple to lead the Senators, who only struck out 14 times while collecting five hits and drawing six walks.

After blowing an early 3-0 lead, the Lynchburg Hillcats prevailed in extras for a 4-3 win over the Potomac Nationals. Cameron Selik gave up a single, hit a batter, and let up an RBI double in the 10th to suffer his second loss. Former Senator teammate Paul Demny lasted just two and 2/3rds in his first 2013 start for Potomac, scratched for three unearned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four. Adrian Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a single and a double to pace the P-Nats offense.

Three Hagerstown pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout of Delmarva as the Suns won, 3-0. Kylin Turnbull turned in another strong outing, striking out nine and walking one over seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits. Gilberto Mendez rebounded from a blown save on Tuesday to notch his sixth save. Narciso Mesa was the lone Suns batter with multiple hits (2-for-3), as the Shorebirds pitchers held Hagerstown to just five hits total.

A two-run rally in the 7th broke a 1-1 tie as the Crosscutters felled the Doubledays, 4-1. Starter R.C. Orlan gave up a run on two hits and a walk over five innings while fanning five but got his sixth no-decision in seven starts. John Simms took the loss with two runs surrendered over three innings. Auburn matched Williamsport’s total of nine hits, but went 2-for-9 with RISP and stranded nine baserunners and whiffed ten times. Cody Dent led the hit column with a 3-for-4 effort, followed by Jean Carlos Valdez and Wilmer Difo, who both went 2-for-4.

Rain postponed the third game in three days against the Cardinals to next week, when it will be made up with a doubleheader next Wednesday.

Oliver Ortiz’s bases-loaded, pinch-hit walk was the difference as the D-Nats edged the D-Pirates2, 2-1 in 10 innings. Luis Torres got the start and went two and 1/3rd innings, allowing the lone D-Pirates2 run on a hit and two walks. He struck out three. Melvi Salazar got the win, his third, pitching the 9th and 10th innings as the D-Nats ‘pen totaled seven and 2/3rds innings of scoreless relief. Leadoff man Thomas Alvarez doubled, scored a run on a sacrifice fly, and drew two walks as the D-Nats mustered just three hits but reached base on six walks.
