Starter Rob Gilliam gave up four runs on six hits and five walks over four and 2/3rds innings, but was taken off the hook with a three-run rally in the 6th that tied the game at 4-4. The Senators took a 6-4 lead with two in the last of the 7th, only to give it back with two runs in the top of the 8th. Matt Grace got the win by stranding the go-ahead run in the 8th while getting the final two outs of the inning. Starter Reynaldo Lopez took the brunt of the beating, giving up seven runs on seven hits over an inning and a 1/3rd with no walks and no strikeouts. Given the pathetic offense at the major league level I still wonder why no one gives Rahl a shot? Sure, he’s older but it sure seems to me like he can hit and field?

Unfortunately he is seen as an organizational guy. Too many at bats are awarded to “prospects” regardless of the results. See how well Espinosa and Brown have been producing this year. Moore can be in this category also.
This approach has hurt the big club by playing both Espinosa and Moore so much in the first half despite their poor performance. It has also made 2 infielders into Major League outfielders despite little or no time at those positions (Kobernus and Lombardozzi). In a results oriented business those organizations which reward results do well and those that ignore results don’t.
Too often the winners are picked before the games are played in the prospect side.

PS. You can put Haren in that non productive category. 6 earned runs in 3.1 innings today. Also Bernadina hitting .179 so far.

Maybe because Rahl is nearly 30 and has an OPS in the .720 range. Marrero and Kobernus were hitting much better than that and have done little (Kobernus) to absolutely nothing (Marrero) since being recalled.
