The long ball couldn’t carry the night as Toledo edged Syracuse, 7-6. Zach Walters and Tyler Moore each went deep with a man on in the 4th as the Chiefs scored four to even the game at… wait for it… 4-4. Walters hit a solo shot in the 7th to give Syracuse a brief 5-4 lead. Tabbed as “Good” in the Friday GBI, Tanner Roark wasn’t in the 8th, giving up two runs to end his streak without giving up an unearned run at 26⅓ innings and take the loss. Starter Matt Torra went the first six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while setting down five on strikes.

Hill has compiled 20 scoreless innings against the Keys, 13 in his last two starts. He allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out four. The P-Nats scored all four runs in the 4th, highlighted by a two-run single by newcomer Mike Gilmartin. Randolph Oduber led the charge with a 2-for-3 game, scoring a run and driving in a run.

Spot starter Hector Silvestre was done in by four walks and an untimely error in the nightcap, which saw the P-Nats lose to the Keys, 9-4. The 20-y.o., who will likely be reassigned to the GCL or Auburn, gave up two hits and five runs over three and 2/3rds innings. The lone earned run he gave up was on a solo HR in the 1st. Justin Miller went 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI in the loss. Roster moves: LHP Hector Silvestre assigned from XST.

Starter Nick Lee gave up two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three for the no-decision. Khayyan Norfork led the Suns offense with a home run and two runs scored while going 2-for-4. The loss dropped the Suns tragic number to one with three games to play, as Hickory lost to Delmarva.

Melvi Salazar set ’em down in order in the 9th for his second save. Darryl Florentino went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI to pace the seven-hit attack.
Nats signed their 3rd round pick, a rare Junior eligible High School to an above slot deal of $850,000 according to BA’s Jim Callis
“June 15: Nationals Land Ward For $850,000
The Nationals have signed third-rounder Drew Ward for $850,000. His bonus is 73 percent more than the assigned $491,200 value for his No. 105 slot.
Ward successfully lobbied Major League Baseball to make him eligible for the 2013 draft after his third year of high school. He created mixed opinions among scouts because he was difficult to evaluate, with his biggest backers viewing him as a second-round talent. Scouts didn’t bear down on him last summer because they didn’t think they’d have to worry about him until 2014, and he played against poor competition at the Class B level of Oklahoma high schools (six below the top classification).
Ward’s best tool is his huge lefthanded power, and he also has arm strength. A shortstop at Leedey (Okla.) High, he’ll probably take his 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame to third base as a pro. He had committed to Oklahoma.”
Slot was $491.200 – difference was made by signing 8th, 9th and 10th rounders (all College seniors) for $15k, $15k, $5k respectively when their slot values were $149,500; $139,700; $135,300. Still have an extra $30k to shower on Round 4-7.
