A bunt single by Jeff Kobernus, an error, a sacrifice, and another single by Jimmy Van Ostrand put an end to a long night in Syracuse as the Chiefs clipped the RedWings, 8-7 in 13 innings. Chris Young got smacked around for six runs on nine hits, including three home runs over four and a 1/3rd innings in his ’13 debut. A quintet of Syracuse relievers combined to hold Rochester to just one run over eight and 2/3rds innings. Eury Perez led the hit column with three singles and a double, while Micah Owings homered and walked twice, once intentionally.

Reading rallied for four runs in the 9th to turn a would-be 4-3 win into a heartbreaking 7-5 loss, the fourth in a row for Harrisburg. Caleb Clay posted his third straight quality start by pitching into the 7th with three runs allowed on six hits and two walks. Brian Goodwin (3-for-5), Josh Johnson (3-for-5) and returnees Erik Komatsu (2-for-5) and Jerad Head (2-for-3) combined for 10 hits and drove in three of the four runs, but after that the Senators lineup was ice-cold with just one hit and three walks.

Despite seven walks, five stolen bases, and three extra-base hits, Potomac was nearly shut out for the second straight night in a 7-1 loss to Carolina. Adrian Nieto’s two-out double following a Carolina error drove in the sole run for the P-Nats, who left on six and went 1-for-10 with RISP. A.J. Cole continues to struggle, roughed up for three runs on seven hits over three innings and lifted after 78 pitches. Likewise for reliever Christian Meza, who let in both runners he inherited and gave up two more in just 2/3rds of an inning.

Augusta’s Martin Agosta outdueled Ivan Pineyro for a 3-1 win over Hagerstown. “Help Me” Wander Ramos homered for the Suns only run, his third in 11 games to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Ivan Pineyro, making his first start after getting hit by a line drive last week, took the loss with two runs allowed on six hits and two walks over five innings. Shawn Pleffner and Brandon Miller both went 2-for-4 with a double as the Suns were held just eight hits total and set down on strikes 12 times.
