Veteran minor-leaguer Mauro Gomez feasted on lefties Danny Rosenbaum and Jeff McCoy for a pair of homers and four RBIs (and snacked on Jeff Mandel for a double), powering Buffalo to a 6-1 win over Syracuse. Gomez got both hits that Rosenbaum allowed in six innings, as the 25-y.o. dominated the rest of the lineup and kept the Chiefs infielders busy with 15 groundball outs. Jimmy Van Ostrand led Syracuse hit column with a single and a double, but it took a home run from Chris Marrero to score the lone Chiefs run as the lineup flailed to an 0-for-7 mark with RISP. Chances are, many of the moves yesterday will be reversed by the end of the month as Ben Meyers of the Auburn Citizen is reporting that Eury Perez’s wrist is sprained, not broken.

That guy with a 15.26 ERA in yesterday’s pitching probables? Threw seven shutout innings as Harrisburg took the fight out of Reading, 4-0. Blake Treinen needed just 83 pitches to do it, allowing just four hits, no walks, and striking out four. Neil Holland and Pat Lehman were just as dominant, as both firemen doused any hope of a comeback with six strikeouts over the final two frames. Anthony Rendon continues to give fanbo…er, the dog a bone, as the Nats top prospect doubled and homered to improve his line to .333/.473/.571 with more walks (9) than RBI (7).

A four-run 6th followed by a two-run 7th turned a 1-1 game into a 7-2 beatdown for Potomac against Salem. Taylor Hill won his second straight start, with one run given up on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four. Christian Meza pitched the final three frames, allowing just an unearned run on two hits and one walk for his first save of the year. Michael Taylor and Adrian Nieto each went 2-for-5 with a double, though the P-Nats could have done more damage with just a 3-for-14 mark with RISP.

A two-run homer in the 7th by Lakewood’s Art Charles broke the tie and a pair of errors in the 9th broke it open as Hagerstown fell, 5-1. The big fly ruined a strong outing by Dixon Anderson, who pitched into the 7th for the first time as a pro. He finished with three runs on three hits, no walks, and nine strikeouts. Blake Schwartz finished up with just a hit and two walks surrendered. Mike McQuillan reached base for the 11th straight game and four times total with two walks, a double, and a triple.
