The Iron Pigs broke open the first game of the twinbill with a four-run 6th inning and held off the Chiefs in the bottom half of the inning for a 5-2 win. Yunesky Maya was charged with the loss with all five Lehigh Valley runs allowed on five hits and two walks. He struck out four. Carlos Rivero singled in a run in the 6th while Chris Marrero doubled in a run in the 1st as the two corner infielders both went 1-for-3.

Jimmy Van Ostrand’s walkoff single in the bottom of the 8th gave Syracuse a 3-2 win to split the doubleheader and avoid the series sweep. Starter Ryan Perry gave up just one run on four hits, no walks, and struck out four but got the no-decision when Erik Davis blew the save in the top of the 7th, giving up the tying run on a double and a single after whiffing the first two batters he faced. Jeff Kobernus continues to put up Nintendo R.B.I. numbers with a 3-for-4 afternoon that pushed his batting average to .556 while swiping his 4th and 5th bags.

Anthony Rendon and Brian Goodwin combined for seven hits and four doubles as Harrisburg completed the sweep of Altoona with a 4-2 win. Brian Broderick had just one three-up-and-three-down frame out of five, but gave up just one run — a solo HR in the 3rd — on five hits and three walks to earn the win. Trevor Holder followed with three scoreless innings to earn the hold. Rob Wort couldn’t get the save, giving up a run on a single, steal, and sacrifice fly. After an error extended the inning, he issued a walk, which prompted manager Matt LeCroy to pull him. Marcos Frias wasn’t much better, issuing a wild pitch to move the tying runs into scoring position, but got the final out for the save.

With a 6-4 win on Sunday, Lynchburg once again took two out of three from Potomac. For the second straight start, Kylin Turnbull hit the wall in the 5th, charged with six runs (all earned) on nine hits and two walks with just a single whiff. Colin Bates let in one inherited run, but finished the frame and held the ‘Cats scoreless for the next two. The P-Nats rallied for three in the 6th and put the tying runs on in the 9th with singles by Cutter Dykstra and Caleb Ramsey, but Lynchburg closer Nathan Hyatt struck out the next two batters (all three in the inning) to kill the comeback bid.

Hagerstown trailed 2-0, 3-2, and 4-2 before rallying for four in the 7th to take the rubber game of the series from Delmarva, 6-4. Khayyan Norfork delivered the decisive blow in the game-winning rally, doubling in two and driving in three runs total. Starter Pedro Encarnacion was lifted after four innings after allowing three runs on four hits and two walks. Bryan Harper got the win in relief while Robert Benincasa worked around a pair of hits in the 9th to get his second save of the year.
