Jeff Mandel had one bad inning out of six, but without the offense to back him up, it was enough for Syracuse to lose, 2-0. The 27-y.o. righty scattered eight hits and walked three, but gave up both Indianapolis runs in the 2nd. The Chiefs offense was limited to just four hits and one walk, with no batter reaching base twice and just three getting into scoring position. Brian Goodwin, Sean Nicol, and Anthony Rendon went back-to-back-to-back in a three-run 6th that powered the Senators to their fourth straight win, 5-2 over the R-Phils. Rehabbing Jhonatan Solano, who’s scheduled to finish the season with Harrisburg, also went deep for a solo shot in the 4th. Starter Paul Demny gave up both Reading runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings. Ryan Tatusko got the win with three and 2/3rds innings of shutout ball with a three hits and a walk given up and six strikeouts. Hector Nelo got the save (#16) with the tying run on deck with a one-batter-one-strikeout outing. Roster moves: RHP Kevin Pucetas transferred from Syracuse, C Jhonatan Solano assigned as MLB rehab.
Potomac vs. Carolina — PPD
Rain postponed the beginning of the final Potomac homestand and the contest against the Carolina Mudcats. It will be made up with a doubleheader tonight at 6:05 p.m. Roster moves: RHP Taylor Hill promoted from Hagerstown. As with Will Hudgins’s promotion, there is no official word on who has been deactivated to take his place on the P-Nats roster.

Dixon Anderson’s Low-A debut was one to forget as the 2011 ninth-round pick was run into the wall by the Intimidators in an 11-4 Suns loss. Anderson got just two outs (both K’s) in the top of the first, as Kannapolis ran wild (four steals) and the defense faltered (three errors) to render three of the five runs he gaveup unearned, though the 23-y.o. walked two and and allowed three hits. Billy Burns led the Hagerstown offense with a 3-for-5 night. Hagerstown’s lead in the Sally North is back to just a ½ game, one in the loss column, over second-place Hickory and West Virginia. Roster moves: 2B Hendry Jimenez activated from the DL.

Auburn battled back a 4-1 hole with three runs in 8th and 9th innings to force extras, but gave up three in the 10th to lose, 7-4 to Batavia. Starter Brett Mooneyham went four-plus innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Jack McGeary took the loss when a single and a botched sacrifice put the first two runners on and Derek Self was unable to strand them, giving up a two-run double and an RBI single. Brandon Miller and Spencer Kieboom both went 2-for-4 as the Doubledays managed eight hits total. The loss trims Auburn’s lead over second-place Batavia to four games in the NYPL’s Pinckney Divison, with third-place State College (7GB) coming to Falcon Park for the next three games. Roster moves: IF Carlos Alvarez demoted from Hagerstown.

The G-Nats were held to just three hits but managed to avoid the shutout, losing 3-1 to the G-Marlins. Ronald Pena got the start and took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits over two innings with a walk and a strikeout. Wilmer Difo and James Brooks both singled and walked while Difo and Hayden Jennings, who had the only other hit, both stole bases.

The D-Phils broke open a 1-1 tie with three in the top of the 10th and the D-Nats could only respond with one to lose in extras, 4-2. Starter Elisaul Gomez was the first of five D-Nats pitchers used, allowing four hits and no walks over two and 2/3rds innings. David Ramos took the loss when Mario Sanchez was unable to strand the leadoff double Ramos gave up before being lifted for Sanchez. Randy Novas came off the bench to score both D-Nats runs, including a solo home run in the 5th as part of a 2-for-3 afternoon.
