Nate McLouth struck again, homering in his second straight game to complete the four-game sweep of Syracuse with a 4-3 win. The big fly was the fourth that starter Yunesky Maya has surrendered in as many starts, as the Cuban took the loss with three runs allowed on seven hits and two walks while striking out two. Corey Brown and Jim Negrych both singled twice, with Negrych driving in two of the Chiefs runs and Brown stealing his 10th base.

Zach Walters delivered the walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the 12th to end a four-hour marathon and give Harrisburg a 4-3 win over Erie. Ryan Perry made his third start for the Senators and went the first five innings, giving up just a run on three hits and a walk while fanning five. The Seawolves struck for single runs in the 7th and 8th innings to tie the game at 3-3. Jesus Valdez’s one-out double started the winning rally, with an IBB to Tim Pahuta and HBP on Destin Hood loading the bases for Walters. The Senators finished the homestand at 5-3 and now head for Bowie for a three-game set against the BaySox.
Rehab update: RHP Cole Kimball’s tour shifted from Potomac to Harrisburg. He entered the game in the 6th and faced three batters, walking one, retiring one, and giving up a hit. Just 9 of 17 pitches he threw went for strikes, none of which broke 90 mph.

The Mudcats completed their second home series sweep of the P-Nats with a 5-3 decision. Starter Matt Grace broke his streak of 10-run games with a quality start: two runs on six hits and a walk — his first QS since June 9. Reliever Adam Carr took the loss with three runs (two earned) on four hits, including a solo shot in the 8th to provide the insurance run. Potomac’s 7-8-9 trio of Stephen King, Randolph Oduber and Kevin Keyes combined for four hits, three doubles, two walks, and two RBI. After a 2-4 road trip, the P-Nats return to Woodbridge for a pair of three-game series against Frederick Keys and rematch against Carolina.

For the fourth time in the five-game series, the Suns bullpen imploded, giving up five runs in the last of the 8th for an 8-3 sportswriter’s win* for the BlueClaws media. Colin Bates suffered the loss, giving up five runs on four hits over the last two frames, with the killshot being an inside-the-park three-run HR. Bobby Hansen got the no-decision with three runs allowed on seven hits and two walks. The top third of the Hagerstown lineup was 7-for-12, the bottom two-thirds was 1-for-23 with 10 strikeouts. The Suns still managed a winning roadtrip with a 5-4 mark, and return home for five against the Lexington Legends. *Anytime the home team puts the game away with a big inning late in the game, thus not killing anything written earlier in the game.

The GCL Cardinals scored a pair of runs early (1st) and a pair late (9th), sending the GCL Nationals to their ninth straight loss, 4-1. Daury Vasquez struck out seven over four innings, but gave up two runs on a home run while issue three free passes to take the loss. Casey Selsor allowed just a walk over three scoreless innings of relief. Mike McQuillan continues to hit, going 2-for-4 with a triple but the G-Nats were held to just six hits total.
