The Chiefs stranded 11 runners in a 5-3 loss to Norfolk, a game that was delayed nearly an hour due to Norfolk’s late arrival from Columbus and called after a rain delay with two outs and nobody on in the 9th. Mitch Atkins took the loss with all five Tides runs allowed on six hits and two walks. Erik Arnesen turned in three and 2/3rds perfect innings of relief, but the offense sputtered — twice leaving ’em loaded in the 5th and 7th innings. Corey Brown extended his hit streak to 18 with a third-inning single.

The Seawolves scored early and often, weathering five unanswered runs from the Sens for a 13-9 triumph. Starter Kevin Pucetas was fileted for eight runs (six earned) on 12 hits and a walk. Five of those runs came on two longballs. Jimmy Van Ostrand led the Harrisburg hit parade with a 4-for-5 night as eight of the nine starters got a hit and five of those eight had multiple hits. Zach Walters and Chris Rahl both homered as the Senators were only outhit by one, 19-18.

With a 15mph breeze out and a 100-degree gametime temperature, it’s a miracle more runs weren’t scored as the P-Nats slammed Salem 13-4. Every starter reached base at least twice, and seven batters had multiple hits. Adam Olbrychowski got the win with four runs given up over five innings, while relievers Adam Carr, Rob Wort, and Neil Holland combined for four no-hit innings of relief. After their first road series win since April, Potomac swings southeast to Zebulon for a three-game series against the Carolina Mudcats.

After leading 6-0 and 9-5, the Lakewood BlueClaws scored seven unanswered runs, including four in the last of the 8th, for a 12-9 win over the Hagerstown Suns. Though they registered 13 hits, the Suns stranded 10 runners and went 3-for-18 with RISP. Chris McKenzie hit the wall in the 5th, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks over four and a 1/3rd. Jeremy Mayo and Brian Goodwin both singled and doubled twice to lead the hit column, while Steve Souza Jr. and Brett Newsome both tallied three RBI in the loss.

Like speaking ill of Stan Musial, leaving Falcon Park early might just be a cardinal sin as Auburn rallied late yet again for a walkoff win, 10-9 over Williamsport. It took just three batters to erase the 9-8 deficit, as Shawn Pleffner homered, Angel Montilla singled, and Tony Renda doubled to seal the deal. The comeback made a winner out of Travis Henke, the last Doubleday hurler of the night who tossed a scoreless 9th. Silvio Medina got the start but put up a LaLoosh-like line of four runs on four hits and five walks with five strikeouts over four and and 1/3rd.

The G-Astros cashed in on a leadoff triple in the last of the 7th to edge the G-Nats, 3-2. Will Hudgins made his second start, giving up a run on three hits (including a HR) and no walks. Both teams had seven hits, but the G-Nats had just two runners get into scoring position and left on three runners, thanks to a caught stealing, Tony Nix’s HR, and a double play ball.

Elisaul Gomez’s first start was a dandy — a single run given up over six innings on four hits and two walks, as the DSL Nationals edged the DSL Pirates2 squad, 3-2. The D-Nats had just seven hits, but three of them went for extra-bases, as 6-7-8 hitters Yermin Mercedes, Randy Novas, and Bryan Mejia combined to go 5-for-11 with those three doubles and scored all three runs. 17-y.o. Jorge Berrio’s second outing was also strong: five K’s over two frames, while Felix Moscat closed out the game with a scoreless 9th for his first save.
