Syracuse 2 Louisville 1— GAME ONE
• Maya 5⅔ IP, 4H, R, ER, 2BB, 5K
• Severino (BS, 1) ⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, K, 2-1 IR-S
• Pena (W, 1-2) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Carroll 1-2, R, 2B
• Negrych 1-1, 2B, RBI

Jim Negrych’s pinch-hit RBI double in the last of the 7th gave the Syracuse Chiefs a 2-1 victory in the opener. Yunesky Maya turned in another strong start, charged with one run on four hits and two walks over five and 2/3rds, but got the no-decision when Atahualpa Severino gave up a double to the first batter he faced. Hassan Pena got the win by pitching a scoreless inning in the top of the 7th.

Syracuse 1 Louisville 0 — GAME TWO
• Mandel 5IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 5K
• Garcia (W, 1-0) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Negrych 1-2, R, 2B, BB
• Skelton 1-3, RBI

Jeff Mandel and Christian Garcia combined on a one-hit shutout while Jim Negrych and James Skelton combined on the two Syracuse hits for a 1-0 win that completed the doubleheader sweep. Negrych’s two-out double broke up the Louisville bid for a no-hitter. The win was the Chiefs’ third straight.
Tyler Moore was pulled in the 4th inning of game one and recalled to Washington. No corresponding move has yet been announced.

Harrisburg 4 Binghamton 3
• Ballard 6IP, 10H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 6K
• Tatusko (W, 1-1) 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, K
• Davis (SV, 4) 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Perez 2-4, R, 2-2B, 2RBI, OF assist
• Rahl 2-4, R, 2B

Early on, it look like Mike Ballard was going to have a short night, lit up for three runs on five hits in the first. But a critical baserunning mistake — attempting to stretch a leadoff triple into an inside-the-park job — gave the southpaw the standing eight count he needed to come off the ropes, as the Senators came off the ropes for a 4-3 win. Eury Perez’s two-run double in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the gamewinner, making a winner out of Ryan Tatusko, while Erik Davis locked down the last two innings for his 4th save.

Potomac 8 Frederick 6
• Swynenberg 6⅓ IP, 9H, 5R, 4ER, 2BB, 2K, HR
• Holland 2+IP, 0H, R, ER, 2BB, 0K, HBP
• Wort (BS, 2; W, 1-2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 4K, 3-1 IR-S
• Freitas 5-6, R, RBI
• Bloxom 2-6, 2R, 2HR, 3RBI

It took 13 innings and four hours, but the P-Nats finally locked out the Keys, 8-6. The question now is “which position players can pitch?” whether the win was pyrrhic as the ‘pen was forced to turn in six and 2/3rds innings of work with five games to play in less than 72 hours. Frederick battled back from deficits of 3-0, 5-2 in regulation and 6-5 in the 11th. David Freitas’s 5th single set up the gamewinner, scoring on a passed ball and pair of groundouts. Justin Bloxom’s 2nd HR provided the insurance run. Rob Wort got the blown-save-win, surviving a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the 11th but pitching a scoreless 12th. Newly side-arming Jimmy Barthmaier made his second appearance in as many games and tossed a 1-2-3 13th for the save, his 1st of 2012 but just his second in his pro career.

Hagerstown 9 Kannapolis 6
• Encarnacion 3IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 4K, HR
• Holt (H, 2) 2IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, BB, K
• Souza 3-5, 2R, 2B, HR, 2RBI
• Miller 2-5, R, 2B, RBI
• Ramsey 2-4, 3B

With a five-run 3rd, the Suns put the Intimidators into the wall en route to a 9-6 win. Steve Souza singled, doubled, and homered to lead the 13-hit attack. Ben Hawkins got the win in relief of Pedro Encarnacion, though neither pitcher was terribly effective (3IP, 3R and 3IP, 2R). Wilson Eusebio pitched a scoreless 9th for the save. Prior to the game, C Adrian Nieto was placed on the 7-Day DL, with C Sam Palace activated and assigned from Potomac to replace him on the Suns roster.

DSL Yankees1 23 DSL Nationals 6
• Valerio (L, 0-1) ⅔ IP, 6H, 7R, 6ER, BB, 0K, 0HR, 2 fielding errors
• Aquino 2IP, H, R, ER, BB, K, 0HR
• De Los Santos 2-5, R, 2B
• Abreu 1-3, R, 2B, 2RBI

Well, at least nobody got hurt. The DSL Yankees1 put up rallies of seven and eight runs and only failed to score three times out nine innings, skewering the DSL Nationals, 23-6. Five pitchers took the beating, giving up 19 hits (2HRs, one triple, eight doubles) and 11 walks. 16-year-old Maximo Valerio committed the only two D-Nat errors. Offensively, 18-year-old Juan De Los Santos led the seven-hit attack with a single, a double, and a run scored.

A pretty good day across the board.
I forget who wrote it about 10 days ago, but the term ‘Pitching starved PNats’ looks to be in play.
The article at the time talked of Purke coming to the rescue for them. Good luck to them.
Getting about time for Auburn, isn’t it?

Also, why is it that Rafael Martin still shows “Active” under Status when supposively he was sent home and was put under the Restricted List days back?

You’d have to ask MiLB.com’s interns.
