A trio of four-run frames put this one away early as the Syracuse Chiefs gored the Durham Bulls, 14-3. Yunesky Maya turned in another quality start with two runs allowed over six innings on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Jeff Mandel scattered six hits over the last three, giving up one run to earn his first save. Seth Bynum drove in five while going 3-for-5, racking up eight total bases with two doubles and a HR.

Three runs in the middle innings proved to be enough as Altoona doubled up Harrisburg, 4-2, ending the Sens’ modest three-game win streak. Ryan Perry took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks over three and 2/3rds while fanning five. Ryan Tatusko finished the 4th and gave up a run over the next three frames, setting down four on strikes. Harrisburg mustered just five hits total and went 1-for-10 with RISP in the loss.

Potomac scored seven unanswered runs but it was too little, too late as Salem’s 16 runs in the first three innings held up in a 16-14 slugfest. The two teams combined for 36 hits, but the difference was the five home runs by Salem, three of which came off rehabbing Cole Kimball in the first inning. Scheduled starter Matt Grace gave up 10 runs for the second straight outing. Matt Swynenberg made his case to return to the rotation with five and a 1/3rd innings of long relief, giving up just two runs. Jason Martinson led the P-Nats offense with a 3-for-5 night, falling a double shy of the cycle while driving in four.

Hendry Jimenez’s two-run HR capped a three-run 6th as Hagerstown came back from a 4-2 deficit to win this one 5-4, completing the four-game sweep of Delmarva. Bobby Hansen Jr. got the win, though he gave up all four Shorebirds runs on seven hits and five walks. An assist (ok, hold) goes to Christian Meza for stranding two baserunners and setting up Aaron Barrett for his 11th save. Caleb Ramsey led the hit column with a 3-for-4 night. Possible roster move: Billy Burns left the game with a knee injury after stealing his 29th base.

Shawn Pleffner’s two-out, two-run double completed a three-run rally in the bottom of the 9th as the Doubledays edged the Crosscutters, 4-3, preserving their perfect home record (6-0) and taking sole possession of first place in the Pinckney division of the New York-Penn League. Pleffner went 3-for-4 to lead the Auburn offense, and extended his streak to nine games. Taylor Jordan allowed just hit over three innings while striking out three, throwing just 34 pitches. Cody Davis got the win in relief, striking out two of the four batters he faced. Roster moves: LHP Brett Mooneyham assigned to Auburn; 3B Carlos Lopez on the 7-Day DL.

Despite outhitting the G-Cards 7-3, the G-Nats fell in game one, 2-1. DSL grad Daury Vasquez suffered the loss, giving up both runs (one unearned) on three hits and four walks while striking out four. Tony McQuillan reached base three times with a walk and two singles to lead the offense, followed by Tony Nix, who went 2-for-3.

In a much tighter contest (but the same result), the G-Cards swept the doubleheader with a 2-1 win in game two. 17th-rounder Blake Schwartz took the loss in his first pro appearance, allowing both Cardinals runs on three hits over the first three innings. 31st-rounder and Univ. of Maryland product Mike Boyden also debuted, combining with DSL grad Joel Barrientos for four scoreless innings and six strikeouts. The sole run came in on a groundout following a one-out triple by Wilmer Difo in the 4th.
