AFL Update: November 16, 2011
Bryce Harper continued his torrid hitting while Scorpions remain tepid, losing again by a 4-1 count.
Harper went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Defensively, he caught a foul fly but committed his sixth error on a missed catch.
Derek Norris remained ice-cold with another oh-fer, striking out twice in four at-bats and also committing an error on a throw. That was his seventh miscue of the fall.
Zach Walters wouldn’t be left out of this mistake-fest, committing his sixth error while playing third base. Offensively, he went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
On the pitching side, Matt Purke turned in another scoreless outing, his fourth straight. He allowed a hit but struck out two, throwing 12 of his 16 pitches for strikes.
Scottsdale hosts Peoria for its final home game tonight, before finishing up the 2011 season tomorrow afternoon. Sammy Solis is not listed as a starter for either game.
Sue – Stats have been good, but have you heard anything about the quality of Purke’s outings lately? Velocity, command, movement?
Paging Ernie Salazar… Mr. Salazar, can you pick up the white phone?
I’ve heard the velocity has gotten up into the low 90s, and the command we can infer from the strikes-balls in the boxes, but aside from that, I haven’t heard much. Remember, our budget is pretty tight here:

I’m hoping BA is right and he gets assigned to Potomac, where also I’m told the new laser-graded field has been put in.
He could probably also handle janitorial services, no? I am thinking waste disposal would probably be an easy reach.
I tweeted KLaw about Purke too, I’ll post it if he replies (not holding my breath tho). Potomac seems right, probably going to be a good staff there this year. I am western FFX County, so I had dreams of them moving to the new stadium in Loudon, but that looks like a no go.
I posted a question about Purke to KLaw’s chat tomorrow, as well. He had given a review from he’s early outings so I was asking what he thought about he’s lastest ones.
I guess we’ll have to wait until spring to see what Purke has, an inning at a time is hardly enough to tell anything.
One thing we do see is he’s getting better with every outing. I can’t wait till spring training though… it’s a good time to be a Nats fan.
