AFL Update: October 17, 2011
As was brought up in the comments from yesterday’s post, the early numbers from the Arizona Fall League aren’t pretty. But they’re not quite 9-of-22 with 4 INT, either. So we lift the coffee mug of small sample size and take a look…

The Domninican Winter League started up on Friday and a handful of Nats players have been spotted in the box scores:
- Eury Perez – Escogido
- Wilman Rodriguez – Escogido
- Jhonatan Solano – Licey
- Atahualpa Severino – Licey
A couple of other notes…
…Chris Marrero is supposedly on the Licey Tigres as well, but is not listed on the roster and/or has not appeared in a game.
…Wilman Rodriguez played outfield for the D-Nats this past summer, but has appeared as a pitcher thus far. Considering that this was in a game that was 1-1 at the time, and that he is no longer a teenager, the deduction is that a conversion to the mound may be in the process.
Unless Norris has a pretty good AFL season, he may have burned his prospect status at the AA level. He hasn’t hit above .235 above Hagerstown and despite the talk of improved defense, he just ain’t gonna make the bigs hitting .235-.210
I was hoping he’d break thru but this is 2 straight years of subpar average. He should start the year again at H-burg – I see from the Draft Tracker he has to be on the 40 man next year? Could be a candidate to be left off and made available to Rule 5.
Good to hear from you Vladi, except for NatsFan1A, not many from the “old” Blogfather crew at NJ post any more. Still have a half “season” to go, so I want to see how Norris does. Everyone on that Scottsdale team seem to be sub par so far.
Uh, Sue were those stats you quoted at the beginning of the post, football statistics from some game played in Washington yesterday?
Hey, what am I, chopped liver? Old crew, [grumble, grumble]. I’m not dead yet…
[Richard Lewis from “Men In Tights”]: Was I mocking a certain NFL team?
I’m relatively certain that the list of WSH players & prospects playing winter ball will grow in the coming weeks, particularly in the DWL & PWL. The list is at 22 total right now, and could easily go to 35 before the winter season is finished.
Speaking of chopped liver. I was an original too on NJ. Posted under Jeeves and still do, but sparingly, on the Insider. But this is definitely my favorite site.
Appreciate the kudos, boys. When Mark touches upon the minors I’ll post on Insider, but for the most part I try to keep the “membership” here organic, i.e. folks that come here naturally or are encouraged by word of mouth. I hope that comes through when I mock the keyword stuffing for Harper.
I’m not dead yet, either!
