Yunesky Maya went the distance in the first game, but got no support in 2-0 loss. Matt Antonelli, Jeff Frazier, and Carlos Maldonado each doubled but were each stranded as the Chiefs went 0-for-6 with RISP and left on five baserunners.

Tug Hulett homered in the bottom of the 1st, but that’s all Syracuse would muster in another loss, this one by a 3-2 count. J.D. Martin had but one bad inning, but took the loss for allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. Steve Lombardozzi, Roger Bernadina, and Jhonatan Solano were the other Chiefs to collect hits. The two losses dropped Syracuse’s mark to 60-71, ending any hope of reaching .500 for the year.

Derek Norris’s RBI single gave the Senators an early 1-0 lead and that’s all Shairon Martis would need as he would throw a seven inning no-hitter. Martis walked one and struck out nine in the no-no, the third in Harrisburg franchise history. Tyler Moore and Chris Rahl also homered in the 3-0 win.

Tim Pahuta’s two-run pinch-hit home run in the top of the 6th turned a 6-5 deficit into a 7-6 lead to as the Sens outslugged the Fisher Cats for an 8-6 win to sweep the doubleheader. Tyler Moore smacked his 30th home run in the top of the 1st and went 3-for-4 for the game with 5 RBIs to lead the offense. Pat Lehman picked up the win in relief, tossing two and a 1/3rd scoreless innings to close out the game. The double dip coupled with another Bowie loss puts Harrisburg up four games on the Baysox, 5½ games on the Flying Squirrels in the E.L. West.

Potomac should have won this one in regulation, but got strong bullpen work after Josh Smoker let in the tying runs to take this one 5-4 in 13 innings. Paul Demny went seven innings plus one batter and left with a 4-2 lead but Smoker gave up a two-run triple following a walk and a sacrifice in the bottom of the 8th to blow the save. Zach Walters broke the tie with a two-out double in the 13th for the only P-Nat extra-base hit of the game, making a winner out of Neil Holland, who pitched two scoreless innings. The win combined with a Lynchburg loss drops the magic number to clinch to just five while cutting Frederick’s division lead to 3½ games.

The Groovin’ Aruban returned to the Suns lineup last night for the first time since June 17, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, but that was the highlight of the Hagerstown night as the Asheville Tourists won, 7-1. Chris McKenzie took the loss with three runs allowed on seven hits and two walks over five innings. The loss was the third straight for the Suns, who are now tied for 4th place with Greensboro, four games behind in the Sally North.

Billy Burns doubled and came home on two wild pitches as Auburn edged Batavia, 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel. Taylor Hill started and went the first five, allowing the lone Muckdog run on three hits. Christian Garcia and Aaron Barrett combined for four scoreless innings to earn the win and save, respectively. Both teams had just six hits, with Angel Montilla the lone Doubleday to get two hits. The win reduced the magic number for Auburn to seven as the Doubledays lead second-place Williamsport by 3½ games with eight left to play.
GCL Nationals — OFF DAY
It would appear that Hurricane Irene won’t end the suffering postpone the final game today for the GCL Nationals, thus giving them the chance to still finish last in the GCL East.
