Syracuse was out of this game early as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored three runs in the 2nd inning against Yunesky Maya and was up 7-0 after four innings, with all seven earned runs charged against Maya. Collin Balester’s ERA also took a beating as he gave up seven runs in the 8th while retiring only one batter. Outside of Chris Marrero’s 2-3 night, not much happened offensively for the Chiefs. Syracuse’s lone run came from a Seth Bynum homer in the 9th inning. With the loss, the Chiefs fall to 44-57, 14½ games back of first-place Lehigh Valley and ten games behind third-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and just two games ahead of fifth-place Buffalo.

Harrisburg brought out the big bats in a 13-2 rout over Bowie. All starters except Josh Johnson and Leonard Davis (1-5, R in his Harrisburg 2011 debut) had at least two hits in a 15-hit onslaught. Tanner Roark easily had his best outing of the season, pitching eight innings to a total of 27 batters. Roark’s one run allowed was unearned, although his own error on a pickoff attempt contributed. Bowie led 1-0 until Harrisburg put the game out of reach with an eight-run fifth inning that featured two doubles, a triple, two singles, and back-to-back home runs from Bill Rhinehart and Tyler Moore after an error that made four of the eight runs unearned. Harrisburg would go on to score one more in the seventh and four more in the eighth before Pat Lehman gave up a run in the 9th to make the final score 13-2. With the victory, Harrisburg improves to 58-45, good for a 1½ game lead over second-place Bowie in the E.L. West.

Shane McCatty has had eight appearances in which no runs came across while he was on the mound. This was not one of those outings. The 24-year-old served up four runs in the top of the 6th, three coming on one swing of the bat, as the Hagerstown Suns would eventually lose this one, 6-4. Robbie Ray went the first four innings, giving up a hit and three walks while striking out six. Adrian Sanchez doubled twice, scored a run, drove in a run and stole a base to lead the Suns offense. The loss puts Hagerstown at 16-14, 2½ games behind Hickory in the Sally League North. Chris Manno gave up a HR in the top of the 9th, his first of the season, but still leads the Sally League with the lowest OBA at .135

Auburn’s offense amply supported Nathan Karns in an 8-2 thumping over the Lowell Spinners. Auburn had 11 hits; Justin Miller, Caleb Ramsey, and Jeremy Mayo had two hits apiece. Karns pitched well in his second start for the Doubledays, giving up only a 2nd-inning solo shot. Auburn scored one run in each of the 2nd through 5th innings and put the game out of reach with a three-run 6th inning to make the score 6-1. Gregory Holt allowed one run and three hits in three innings of relief. Travis Henke pitched a scoreless 9th. With the win, Auburn improves to 21-17 and moved back into first place, tied with Jameston and Mahoning Valley for first place in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.

A balk and a sac fly scored the first two G-Nats in the 6th, Estarlin Martinez’s RBI single in the top of the 8th was the deciding run in a 3-2 victory over the GCL Mets. Martinez and Johan Rodriguez both went 2-for-4 to lead the offense, which collected just seven hits. The G-Nats pitchers survived seven walks, allowing six hits. Nick Lee got the win with two scoreless innings of relief of Adalaberto Mieses (3IP) and Garrett Mock (1IP). Ben Hawkins pitched the final three innings to notch the save. The win improves the G-Nats to 12-18, 8½ games off the pace.

A trio of 18-year-old D-Nats pitchers combined on four-hit shutout of the D-Phillies for an 8-0 victory. Gilberto Mendez walked two and gave up two hits while striking out a season-high nine batters over the first six innings. Daury Vasquez followed him out of the ‘pen, striking out four in two innings. Jesus De Los Santos had his first scoreless outing with a one-hit, one-K 9th inning. Offensively, the D-Nats had just eight hits with Algenis Ramirez, a 17-year-old recently signed from the Dominican Prospect League, connecting for two doubles, scoring twice, and driving in two. With the win, the D-Nats move into fourth place and above .500 at 24-23, five games behind the DSL Rangers.
