Syracuse fell 5-2 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Syracuse jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on third inning homers from Chris Marrero (10th) and Steve Lombardozzi (3rd for Syracuse in 135 ABs; he had four with Harrisburg in 262 ABs). Syracuse mustered just five hits and was 0-6 with runners in scoring position. Tom Milone gave up a single, an RBI triple, and an RBI groundout in the third inning for two runs. Milone was chased when he gave up two more runs in the fifth on a one-out, bases-loaded two RBI double from Jesus Montero. Zech Zinicola would allow the inherited runner from third to score on an RBI groundout, closing the damage against Milone at five runs. Zech Zinicola would go on to pitch a scoreless sixth and Lee Hyde would hold the Yankees down with a scoreless eight and ninth. With the 5-2 loss, Syracuse falls to 44-55, 13 games behind first place Lehigh Valley.

Harrisburg fell 5-1 in seven innings of the first game of the day-night doubleheader. Richmond jumped out to an early lead with two unearned runs in the first. Harrisburg answered back in the third with their lone run, a Derek Norris RBI double scoring Chris Rahl. Erik Arnesen gave up two in the third on a leadoff double, two singles, a hit by pitch, and another single. Richmond would tack on their fifth run on an RBI double in the
fourth. Harrisburg managed just five hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch. They failed to take advantage of several opportunities, hitting 1-8 with RISP. With the loss, Harrisburg falls to 55-43, one game in front of Bowie and tied in the loss column. With the postponement of game two of the doubleheader, Harrisburg will play a doubleheader today against Richmond before coming to Bowie on Monday for three crucial games.

The Carolina League’s HR leader had two more yesterday in a 9-8 Winston-Salem win over Potomac. Unfortunately, that’s HRs allowed, not hit. Paul Demny surrendered a pair of two-run HRs and walked three to give up all nine Dash runs in the loss, which was his team-worst ninth. Joe Serafin pulled within one of Demny by surrendering four HRs to the Potomac lineup, which outhit the Winston-Salem batters 13-6. Jeff Kobernus led the offense with two HRs and three RBI, while Steve Souza broke a 39-game HR drought and a 17-game streak without multiple hits; both hitters went 3-for-4. The loss drops Potomac two games behind Frederick at 16-12 in the Carolina League North.

A three-run shot in by Jason Martinson in the last of the ninth was too little, too late as Greenville doubled up Hagerstown, 8-4. The Suns ‘pen was horrific, giving up six runs on seven hits (two home runs) over four innings as no Hagerstown pitcher was untouched. Hagerstown outhit the Drive 13-11, with eight of nine batters hitting safely and four collecting multiple hits. Chris McKenzie started and went the first five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks but took the loss, his fourth of the season. The loss sets the Suns to 15-13, 2½ games behind the Hickory Crawdads in the Sally North.

The bullpen woes from Hagerstown were also on display in Lowell, as the Doubledays relievers unraveled to turn a 5-0 lead into a 7-5 loss to the Spinners. Alex Kreis was torched for four runs on four hits over an inning and a third, letting in one inherited run for his second blown save. Aaron Barrett gave two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the loss. Matt Skole doubled twice and scored a run to lead the Auburn offense. Connor Rowe and Justin Miller both homered in the loss, which tunbled Auburn into third place at 19-17 for the year, two games behind Mahoning Valley.

The G-Nats reverted to form with an 8-6 loss to the G-Cards, stopping a three-game win streak. After battling back from deficits of 4-0 and 5-3, the G-Nats rallied to tie it in the 6th and took a 6-5 lead in the 7th. The G-Cards took the final lead with three runs in the bottom of the 7th off beleaguered reliever Andy Santana, who was charged with the loss. Silvio Medina started and went the first four and 2/3rds, giving up the first five runs on eight hits and a walk. Estarlin Martinez (3-for-5) and Wander Ramos (2-for-4) were the offensive stars. The loss drops the G-Nats to 11-17, eight games behind the G-Marlins.

Today is the All-Star game; that much I can glean from the Spanish-language website. But which DSL Nationals, if any, will be participating is unknown as of now because there is no list of players named to the two teams (American League affiliates vs. National League affiliates).
