Syracuse won the first game of the doubleheader against Lehigh Valley 3-2. Jeff Frazier hit a two-out double to score catcher Jhonatan Solano in the second. Michael Aubrey led off the fourth with a solo shot. Seth Bynum scored on a Jesus Valdez single after getting hit by a pitch and stealing second. JD Martin offered a strong 5 and 2/3rd innings of two run ball before Josh Wilkie struck out three of the four batters he faced to close the
game for the Chiefs.

Syracuse fell 5-2 to split the doubleheader against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Syracuse managed just four hits in the seven inning contest. The Chiefs took a short lived 2-0 lead on a Jesus Valdez home run following a Tug Hulett walk. Spot starter Ryan Tatusko immediately gave up three runs on four straight singles and an RBI groundout by opposing pitcher Scott Mathieson. Atahualpa Severino had his best relief outing of the season, striking out all four batters that he faced and stranding an inherited runner. Collin Balester pitched a scoreless ninth to lower his AAA ERA to 2.79. With the doubleheader split, Syracuse is now 39-51, nine games back of third place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and fourteen games back of first place Lehigh Valley.

Chien-Ming Wang was back to his old groundball ways as he earned the win in Harrisburg’s 3-1 victory over Akron. He retired thirteen Aeros — nine on groundouts — in 75 pitches over six shutout innings. Corey VanAllen was charged with a run when Rafael Martin gave up a two-out double to allow inherited runner Beau Mills to score. Martin pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Harrisburg started the scoring with a Tim Pahuta solo shot in the second. Chris Rahl had two out RBIs with an RBI triple in the third and an RBI double for an insurance run in the eighth. Harrisburg improves to 54-36, good for a 5½ game lead over Bowie.

Bad weather continues to plague the Suns’ series against Augusta. Game 1 of a doubleheader was suspended with the Suns down 1-0 but the Suns will have Mills Rogers on 3rd with two out when the game resumes today. The two teams will then play a second, seven-inning game. With a maximum of three games played for this series, at least one doubleheader will played next week when Augusta comes to Hagerstown.

Four Brooklyn pitchers combined to shut out Auburn on just three hits, as the Doubledays lost 2-0. Matt Skole, Carlos Alvarez, and Justin Miller were the lone batsmen to hit safely while Angel Montilla was the sole batter to not strike out, as the other eight whiffed 15 times. Brian Dupra allowed both Cyclone runs on two hits and three walks in his four and 2/3rds innings of work but took the loss, which now leaves Auburn at 15-12 and one game back.

A four-run fourth was more than enough for the GCL Astros to send the GCL Nationals to their fifth straight defeat by a 6-1 count. Gregory Baez was charged with all four of those runs during his three and 2/3rds innings, giving up seven hits and a walk. Erick Fernandez and Frank Karlen both singled and doubled as the G-Nats collected just six hits, falling to 8-13 and six games behind.

This one was over early as the D-Mets1 squad piled on six of its seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 7-0 win over the D-Nats. Felix Moscat was left in for six innings, giving up those six runs on 11 hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Dionicio Rosario had two of the five D-Nats hits and threw a runner out at the plate. The loss drops the D-Nats to 18-21, six games behind the division leader.
