Potomac Game Tonight Postponed
Oh, look a rainout in Woodbridge on a sunny day!
Potomac has announced that tonight’s game against Potomac has been postponed and will be made up tomorrow night with a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. Perhaps not coincidentally, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans are coming to town following the longest game in Carolina League history at 23 innings, a game in which they used seven pitchers, six for two or more innings.
The pic above was taken during the brief rain delay prior to yesterday’s game.
Of course — I finally have a free evening and concrete plans to make it to the Pfitz, and it the game is soggied-out. 🙁
This is what happens when you don’t put the tarp on the field during a torrential downpour.
According to Accuweather.com, 0.11″ rainfall was recorded for 22192. Not exactly a lot of water. To put things in perspective, 0.69″ of rain fell on April 12, 0.3″ on April 13th. The 4/12 game was postponed but a doubleheader was played on 4/13. Keep in mind that that’s with temperatures 20+ degrees cooler and ~105 minutes *less* daylight.
Well, I stand corrected: The tarp was indeed left off the field, so my bad for insinuating something more sinister.
That’s hilarious – Guess I’ll catch a double-header tomorrow night, but what a waste of a beautiful evening.
Unlike years past, there was plenty of notice given for this one. I can remember several times driving up at about 6:30 and hearing folks walking back from the gate sounding something like this.
I bet they still had someone at the street entrance taking parking money.
How hard would it be to just honestly say the Visiting team has no pitchers so we’re postponing.
That would reek of doing a favor to a league leading team (harumph, can’t have that; Blame it on the team with the stadium problems, that’s the answer).
I think we can surmise that the game was re-scheduled because Myrtle Beach’s staff was gassed after last night; The fact that rain fell in Woodbridge over the last 24 hours just made for a probable excuse for the League.
Yep count me one of those who packed up my three children along with the help of my wife and went to the Pfitz tonight… At least I had solice in the fact that there were several other cars that were there as well.
Had a great dinner at Smokey Bones, but my daughter is upset she couldn’t bounce in the bounce houses…. I looked at the field… It didn’t look bad.
I hope someone in management is reading this post!
I keep thinking there should be a Bull Durham movie clip inserted here…. 🙂
That stadium is horrible for fans and players. What’s the possibility to get better facilities for this team. It’s convenient to have a team close to Washington, but attending games in this place is agony.
They could always move to RFK … or what’s left of it … it might be better than what has been described here … otherwise it sounds like someone is going to have front money to build a new facility somewhere in northern Virginia.
