Garrett Mock and the strike zone weren’t well acquainted Friday night, as he walked seven of the 20 batters he faced as the Chiefs fell to the PawSox, 8-2. The first two men out of the ‘pen were also ineffective, as Matt Chico and Lee Hyde allowed five of the six batters they inherited to score. Jhonatan Solano’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th prevented a shutout, as Syracuse was held to just four hits overall.

Ryan Tatusko suffered through another tough outing, giving up seven runs on 10 hits and three walks as the Senators lost 8-1 in Trenton. Like the Syracuse game, the bats were silent, with just one run and five hits by five different players. But the bullpen was much more effective, with one run in 4⅓ innings and six strikeouts (five by Hassan Pena).

A four-run seventh turned a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead that Wilmington would hold to defeat the P-Nats. Three stolen bases, a passed ball, and a wild pitch also aided the Blue Rocks rally, which was highlighted by a two-run shot off Kyle Morrison that tied the game at 4-4. The rally took away a possible win from Danny Rosenbaum, who started and went the first five innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks. He also struck out six. Steven Souza gave the P-Nats the 4-1 lead with a two-out, three-run triple in the top of the sixth. Eury Perez and Jeff Kobernus each had two hits while Destin Hood drew two walks to up his total to six in six games.

The Suns dropped their third straight game by an 8-4 score in Hagerstown’s 2011 Home Opener, which was a reported sellout of 6,107. Lakewood chased starter Chris McKenzie with one out in the fourth after touching him for two runs in the second and three runs in the third. Hagerstown got back two runs in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of two errors and two wild pitches. But a three-run rally off reliever Shane McCatty in the top of the sixth put the game out of reach. Adrian Sanchez and Blake Kelso each had two hits as the Suns had six for the night, and were a woeful 1-for-10 with RISP. Bryce Harper struck out and grounded out twice before drawing a walk in his last plate appearance.
