Notes: Hitters of the game Michael Martinez homered and tripled to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the 9th while Josh Wilkie and Adam Carr weathered a two-hit, two-error ninth to get the win and save respectively as the Syracuse Chiefs prevailed 5-4 over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Matt Chico started the game and went five innings, allowing three runs eight hits and two walks. The win keeps the Chiefs’ slim playoff hopes alive with the elimination nos. for the division and wild card staying put at 8 and 4.

Notes: Tom Milone remains unbeaten since the All-Star break, winning for the fifth time in seven starts (11-5 overall) with a 6-3 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs. With seven strikeouts, Milone also pulled ahead of teammate Brad Peacock for the organization lead at 143, as he allowed three runs on four hits and one walk, registering his 13th quality start in 25 starts. Chris Marrero and Tim Pahuta both homered and went 2-for-3 to pace the Harrisburg offense. The win, combined with doubleheader split between Bowie and Akron, extends the Sens’ wild-card lead by a ½ game over the Baysox and 3½ games over the Aeros

Notes: A two-run home run by Marcus Jones in the bottom of the 9th gave the Hagerstown Suns a 5-3 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. Starter Graham Hicks got the no-decision, working 5⅓ scoreless innings with five hits and no walks allowed while striking out three, while Kyle Morrison got the win with two scoreless innings of relief with one walk allowed and two batters struck out. Adrian Sanchez led the 14-hit attack with a 4-for-5 effort, as the Suns struggled to get the clutch hit with 10 men left on base and a 2-for-15 mark with RISP.

Notes: A two-out error by Rick Hague in the 2nd enabled Lakewood to score two unearned runs, while the Suns could only muster one run to lose the nightcap 2-1. Starter Paul Demny was charged with both Blue Claws runs on six hits and two walks over his 4⅔ innings of work, giving him his 8th loss of the season. Hague would redeem himself with an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd but the Suns were limited to just five hits while committing three errors.
Vermont Lake Monsters @ Lowell — CNCLD
Notes: Rain canceled the finale of this two-game series, which was also the final meeting between these two teams this season. A win by second-place Tri-City has shaved the Lake Monsters’ lead to a ½ game (two in the loss column), with a three-game series against third-place Connecticut set to begin tonight before their lone appearance at Aberdeen for Saturday through Monday.
