Notes: In game 1 of the doubleheader there wasn’t match scoring as both pitchers battled it out. Starter Jordan Zimmerman went four innings giving up only one hit with no runs and 1 strikeout. Leonard Davis’s third-inning home run, his 14th at AAA, proved to be enough as four Chiefs relievers followed Zimmerman, with Jason Bergmann earning the win and Adam Carr registering the save.

Notes: In game two Syracuse started things off with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st, but Columbus came right back with two of their own in the top of the 2nd. The Chiefs got two runners via single, and moved ’em up and in with a sac bunt and a sac fly to take the lead back at 3-2 in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Clippers sailed past with three more runs in third and one more run in the fourth for the game’s final tally of 6-3. Starter Andrew Kown went 2⅓ innings giving up seven hits, four runs and two strikeouts with the loss.

Harrisburg Senators L, 7-1 vs Binghamton

Notes: This one was all Binghamton’s game as they started things off with four runs in the top of the 1st, followed by 1 run each in the 3rd , 4th, and 5th innings, while the Sens could only muster one on a solo HR by Edgardo Baez in the 3rd as they fell to Binghamton 7-1. Starter Brad Peacock went 4⅓ innings, giving up all seven runs on eight hits and three walks. Recently activated Orlando Hernandez pitched 2⅓ scoreless innings in relief while recently promoted Steve Lombardozzi singled in his lone plate appearance.

Potomac Nationals W, 5-2 vs. Lynchburg

Notes: [Ed note: Parental duties kept Sue from the game, so no Tuesday Afternoon in Woodbridge.] The Hillcats got to Adrian Alaniz early for two first-inning runs but couldn’t solve the veteran for any more, as he settled down to register a quality start with just the two runs allowed on six hits and three walks. He also struck out eight. Hitters of the game Bill Rhinehart and Jose Lozada got the offense going in the 4^th as “Dolla” deposited home run #12 over the right-field wall and Lozada doubled and scored to tie things at 2-2. The P-Nats took the lead at 4-2 in the bottom of the 7^th with singles by Mike Burgess and Dan Lyons followed by an RBI groundout by Tyler Moore and an error by Lynchburg. Another Hillcat error and another double by Lozada led to the fifth and final run. A.J. Morris, who replaced Harrisburg-bound Steve Lombardozzi on the roster, got the win in relief while Pat McCoy pitched a scoreless 9^th for his second save.

Hagerstown Suns L, 8-2 @ Kannapolis

Notes: Kannapolis started the game in the bottom of the 1st with 3 runs, while the Suns could only light up the board with 1 run in the 3rd to answer. Kannapolis scored two more in the 3rd and added another three in the 4th to make it 8-1. Hagerstown got one back in the 5th but that was as close as they’d get as they were downed 8-2. Starter Billy Ott fared much worse in his second Low-A start, as he went three innings, giving up seven hits, six runs and two walks with the loss.

Vermont Lake Monsters L, 4-3 @ Hudson Valley
Starting Pitcher: Jenkins (L, 2-5) 0⅓ IP 2H 4R 4ER 4BB 1K

Hitting Star # 1: Labrie 2-4, R, 2-2B, 2RBI

Notes: Hudson Valley blasted out of the starting gate with four runs in the bottom of the 1st and were able to keep things scoreless until the top of the 6th where Vermont scored two runs to cut away at the lead. In the top of the 9th Vermont scored one more run but fell short as they lost 4-3. Starter Chad Jenkins got knocked from the box in the first inning, giving up four runs on two hits and four walks, the one strikeout he recorded being the only batter he retired.

GCL Nationals L, 6-4 vs. GCL Cardinals

Notes: The GCL Nationals got to the GCL Cardinals early with a four-run first, but could not answer two-run outbursts in the 2^nd, 7^th, and… you guessed it… the 9^th to lose 6-4. The two teams combined for seven errors, with the G-Cards committing three and the G-Nats committing four. Starter Pedro Encarnacion went four innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks. Randolph Oduber led the six-hit attached with a single and a double and 2 RBI.

DSL Nationals W, 6-5 @ DSL Mets1

Notes: Scoring a single run in six separate innings, the DSL Nationals bested the DSL Mets1 by a score of 6-5. Pitching and defense weren’t exactly hallmarks of this game, as the D-Nats walked 11 batters and the DSL Mets committed six errors. Clutch hitting was also absent, as the two teams combined to go 3-for-29 with RISP and left 23 runners on base. Starting pitcher Wander Suero went just three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks. He also struck out four. Andy Santana got the win in relief with one run allowed over four innings despite four walks.
