Notes: Rochester started the game off with three runs in the top of the 1st, but Syracuse answered with 4 of their own in the bottom of the 2nd, then added one more in the 3rd to make it 5-3. Rochester made it 5-4 in the 4th but that was as close as they’d get as Syracuse kept their bats quiet for the rest of the game and scored two more in the 8th to win this one 7-4. Starter Matt Chico went 5⅔ innings giving up eight hits, four runs, one walk and two strikeouts with the win.

Notes: Harrisburg started the game off with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but Altoona didn’t let the lead last as they scored two runs of their own in the 2nd and another two in the 3rd. The Sens didn’t give up though as they came back with three runs in the 4th reclaiming the lead at 5-4. But just like a yo-yo Altoona put Harrisburg down again as they scored one run in the 5th and another in 6th to make it 6-5. Finally in the 8th Harrisburg had enough as they scored four runs to end this one at 9-6. Starter Aaron Thompson had yet another rough outing, going five innings and giving up four hits, five runs, and five walks. Chuck James gave up his first earned run as a reliever, but got the win to run his record to 8-0 for Harrisburg.

Notes: A four-run fourth would hold up for the P-Nats, as they survived a ninth-inning scare to win 4-3. Starter Jimmy Barthmaier was battered for two runs on six hits over three innings before giving way to Pat Lehman, who struggled a bit with his control (three walks) but pitched three scoreless innings to earn his fourth win. Tyler Moore and Sean Rooney both went 2-for-4 with an RBI, with Moore extending his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest this season for a P-Nat. The victory completes a seven-game road trip that saw them win five, lose one, and go up 8-2 before thunderstorms halted play. That game will be made up today, as the last-place Lynchburg Hillcats come to town for four games.

Notes: In game one of the doubleheader, Kannapolis came off to a roaring start as they scored five runs in the 2nd to build a fairly comfortable lead. Hagerstown chipped away at that lead scoring two in the 4th and two more in the 6th to make it 5-4. Unfortunately, they were shut down in the 7th which gave them the loss by a 5-4 count. Starter Paul Demny went only 1⅔ innings giving up three hits, five runs and two walks with the loss.

Notes: In game two of the doubleheader the Suns fared better, though Kannapolis started the scoring with single runs in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings. Hagerstown scored three in the 3rd and another thre runs in the 4th to counter the two runs for a 6-2 lead. Kannapolis came back with two runs in the 5th to pull within two at 6-4, but Hagerstown put up another three runs on the scoreboard in the 7th to win this one 9-4. Starter Graham Hicks went four innings giving up seven hits, four runs and striking out five but got a no-decision. Rob Wort pitched three perfect innings with four strikeouts to earn the win.

Notes: A two-run 1st and a four-run 3rd gave starter Taylor Jordan all the support he would need as the Vermont Lake Monsters roared past the Batavia Muckdogs by a 6-1 score. Jordan, who had been rocked for seven runs in his previous outing, gave up just one run on five hits and one walk to even his won-loss record at 2-2. Wade Moore and Chad Mozingo combined for four of the eight Vermont hits, with each stealing a base, and Moore driving in three runs.

Notes: A rainout combined with tomorrow’s scheduled day off will give the Nationals a two-day break and time to gird for home games this week against the Cards and Astros and road games against the Mets and Marlins, which will now be a doubleheader. After 39 games, their record is now 15-24 with an elimination number of nine.
