Syracuse Chiefs W, 4-3 @ Rochester (13 inn.)
WDWRD: 1-4, BB, 2SO as DH
Starting Pitcher: Arnesen 5⅔ IP 4H 2R 2ER 2BB 5K
Pitching Star: Bergmann (W, 4-3) 2IP 1H 0R 1BB 1K
Hitting Star#1: Whiting 2-5, 1R, 1BB, 2SB (2B, HP)
Hitting Star#2: Botts 2-4, 2B
Notes: Syracuse got the scoring started in 1st by stealing a run as Boomer Whiting singled, stole second, took third on the overthrow and stole home with two outs. The lead lasted until the bottom of the 5th where Rochester came back with two runs. In the 7th Syracuse tied things back up at 2-2 and then regained the lead at 3-2 in the 8th with another run.  Rochester had one last chance in the bottom of the 9th and they used it as they were able to score one and send this game into extras.  Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the 13th when newly promoted Danny Espinosa led off with a solo home run. Starter Erik Arnesen went 5⅔ innings, giving up four hits, two runs, and two walks and registering five strikeouts.

Harrisburg Senators W, 6-1 vs. Altoona
Starting Pitcher: Tatusko 4⅔ IP 5H 1R 1ER 4BB 6K
Pitching Star:  Leatherman (W, 1-0) 2⅓ IP 0H 0R 1BB 4K
Hitting Star#1: Johnson 2-4, 2R, 2B, HR, RBI
Hitting Star#2: Lowrance 2-4, R, HR, RBI
Notes:  The wins just keep coming for the Senators — eight straight with a 6-1 win over first-place Altoona. Harrisburg started the scoring with
back-to-back leadoff home runs by Josh Johnson and Marvin Lowrance and plated two more in the bottom of the 1st to take a 4-0 lead. Altoona could only answer with one run in the top of the 2nd. Harrisburg kept the scoring with another run in the 3rd and one more in the 4th to take this one at a final of 6-1. Recently acquired Ryan Tatusko started and went 4⅔ innings, giving up five hits, one run, and four walks along with 6 strikeouts. Dan Leatherman got the win, his first at AA this season, with 2⅓ scoreless and hitless innings of relief.

Potomac Nationals — PPD
Notes: Two inches of rain fell on Myrtle Beach yesterday, forcing a doubleheader today. The Pelicans are 2-0-1 in their three doubleheaders this season while the P-Nats are 1-1. Trevor Holder and recently demoted Jason Jones are expected to start for Potomac, opposed by Cory Rasmus and Zeke Spruill.

Hagerstown Suns — PPD
Notes: The rain swept through the Carolinas South and North, canceling the first of a five-game tile between Hagerstown and Kannapolis. The game will be made up with a doubleheader tomorrow.

Vermont Lake Monsters W, 7-4 vs. Auburn
Starting Pitcher: Bates (W, 3-2) 5IP 4H 4R 4ER 2BB 6K
Pitching Star #1: Herrera (SV, 1) 2IP 0H 0R 2BB 6K
Pitching Star #2: Cahill (H, 1) 2IP 0H 0R 2BB 5K
Hitting Star#1: Moldenhauer  1-3, 3R, 2BB, HR, 2RBI
Hitting Star#2: Mozingo 1-4, R, 3B, BB
Notes:  Auburn started things off with two runs in the top of the 1st, but Vermont answered right back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Auburn added one run in the 2nd to reclaim the lead at 3-2 but once again Vermont came back in the next inning to tie things up again. In the 4th the Lake Monsters scored four runs to take a 7-3 lead; Auburn scored one to counter this attack but that was all the ground they’d gain as Vermont got the win 7-4. Starter Colin Bates went five innings giving up four hits, four runs, and two walks and setting down six by way of the K for the win. The Lake Monsters set a new club record with 17 strikeouts on the night while snapping a four-game losing streak.

GCL Nationals W, 4-3 vc. GCL Mets
Starting Pitcher: Mitchell Clegg 4IP 4H 2R 1ER 0BB 1K 1HR
Pitching Star: Tyler Hanks (W, 4-0) 3IP 3H 1R 1ER 1BB 2K
Hitting Star #1: Angel Montilla 2-2, BB, SH, SF, RBI
Hitting Star #2: Wander Nunez 2-3, BB
Notes: Just one half-inning after coughing up a run to break a 2-2 tie, the GCL Nationals actually rallied for two runs for a ninth-inning walkoff, defeating the GCL Mets 4-3. A walk, sacrifice, another walk, and a wild pitch put the two runs into scoring position while a sacrifice fly by Angel Montilla and a single by Roberto Perez plated the tying and winning runs, respectively. Starter Mitchell Clegg went four innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while Tyler Hanks finished the game with three innings pitched, allowing the go-ahead run, but getting the win to improve to 4-0.

DSL Nationals W, 8-2 @ DSL Cubs2
Starter/Pitching Star: Antonio Guzman 8IP 7H 2R 0ER 4BB 10K
Hitting Star #1: Edgar Gonzalez 4-5, 2R, 2B
Hitting Star #2: “Smiley” Alvarez 3-4, R, 2-2B, 3RBI
Notes: Since snapping their eight-game skid, the DSL Nationals have won four of five, including an 8-2 triumph yesterday over the DSL Cubs2 team. Antonio Guzman struck out a season-high 10 batters and went eight innings allowing two unearned runs on seven hits while walking four. Jose Arismendy and Narciso Mesa gave him some defensive help, each throwing out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double. Edgar Gonzalez was the batter of the game, going four-for-five with a double and two runs scored.

Thanks April. He’s not ‘lights out’ in AAA yet, but Arnesen is holding his own so far. I was originally thinking that his promotion was over aggresive, but glad to see how he’s doing.
