Syracuse Chiefs vs Lehigh – PPD
The Syracuse official website had this to say about the postponement:

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, have had their game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs postponed due to rain on Friday, July 9. The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader at Alliance Bank Stadium on Saturday August 28 beginning at 5pm.

Notes: Harrisburg couldn’t get much of anything going today as they only accumulated three hits for the entire game. Reading scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 3rd and another on a solo home run in the 7th as they won this one 2-0. Starter Tom Milone went six innings giving up an unearned run on seven hits and struck nine and walked none, but took the loss to fall to 6-5 on the season.

Mahoning Valley made a charge in the 5th scoring four runs but it was too late as the Lake Monsters added another in the 6th to win this one 10-5. Starter Christopher McKenzie went 4⅔ innings, giving up six hits, five runs and one walk but couldn’t get the 15th out to get the win, which went to reliever Colin Bates.

Potomac Nationals W, 3-2 @ Frederick

Pitching Star: Martinez (H, 1) 1⅓ IP 1H 0R 0BB 1K
Hitting Star: Burgess 2-3, R, BB, HR, 2RBI
Notes: The 27th series was the charm, as the Potomac Nationals swept the Frederick Keys with a 3-2 win on Friday night. Michael Burgess started the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the first, only to be matched by Jacob Julius in the bottom of the first. A sacrifice fly by Josh Johnson in the top of the 7th gave Potomac a 3-2 lead and the (*ahem*) veteran PNat bullpen trio of Carlos Martinez (26), Cory VanAllen (26) and Dan Leatherman (25 on Monday) combined for three scoreless innings to ice the win.

Hagerstown Suns L, 4-3 @ Greenville
Starting Pitcher: Demny 5IP 5H 2R 1ER 1BB 3K
Pitching Star: None
Hitting Star #1: Kobernus 2-5
Hitting Star #2: Soriano 1-4, R, BB, SB, RBI
Notes: After a two-hour rain delay, the Greenville Drive gave the folks that remained from reported crowd of 5,033 (gee, why they’d wait so long?) at Fluor Field a happy sendoff with a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 9th for a 4-3 win. It was a wild swing from the top half of the inning, in which the Suns rallied with two outs to tie the game at 3-3 with a hit batsmen and a single by Francisco Soriano. Neither team ever led by more than one run, with Hagerstown taking leads of 1-0 after the 1st and 2-1 after the 3rd and Greenville taking a 3-2 after the 7th.

GCL Nationals W, 7-6 vs. GCL Marlins

Hitting Star #2: Angelberth Montilla 2-5, R, 2B, BB, 3SB, RBI
Notes: A two-out, two-run error in the bottom of the ninth gave the GCL Nationals a 7-6 walkoff win on Friday afternoon. It was the fifth error of the afternoon for the GCL Marlins, who blew leads of 4-3 and 6-4. Pat Lehman pitched the first inning in rehab, followed by 18-year-old Gregory Baez, who went four innings and allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five. Angelberth Montilla and recently signed 2010 Draft pick Randolph Oduber led the offense, collecting five of the team’s 11 hits and four of the team’s six stolen bases.

DSL Nationals vs. DSL Orioles2 — PPD
Notes: Rain washed out today’s matchup, setting up a doubleheader on the 19th, which is when the two teams next meet.
